Okay... now THAT is a great idea! Thanks...

jacko Glenn 54. You were lucky to find one. My local Jeep dealer parts man (who usually can find me anything) says Chrysler discontinued this seal on the bottom of the glass. I do have the rubber on top of the tailgate, and take the bar for soft top off when hart top is on. Be careful. What broke the piece on the bottom of the window on my 02, if the tailgate is not all the way open, the passenger side edge of the hard plastic on the bottom of the window will hit the spare tire. Mine cracked first, and over the years broke, and then came off the window. (It is 2 pieces. Hard plastic, and rubber. Glues on window. I liked my 91 better, the frame went completely around the window..

Ageless Stranger That seems about right.

Glenn54 Just in case anyone needs one. I was able to purchase the missing seal for the bottom of the back glass. It costs $116.00 from the Jeep dealer.

Missing seal on rear glass

I went to the local Used Jeep Dealer and looked at a Jeep with a hard top. My rear glass is missing the seal on the bottom edge of glass. It looks like it's normally "fixed" to the glass. So the next question is, can you buy one without the glass?

ygohome yeah, the only "seal" is the weather stripping at the bottom of the hatch. But as I said, in some cases it is not enough to hold the hatch shut. My suggesting in that link I provided is to put a long strip of velcro hook tape over the length of the tailgait lip. That hook tape is more than enough to hold the hatch/weatherstripping and keeping it from popping open.

Neil F. There is nothing on the tailgate. There is a rubber seal on the bottom of the glass that fits behind the tailgate when closed. The softtop seal is not used for the hard top.

^^^^ That is an excellent idea! Much easier to see what you might be missing and how it should work, if you see it in person!

ygohome on some TJs the rear glass would not stay put by the tailgate... the weather stripping at the bottom of the hatch is meant to hold it closed when the tailgate is closed against it. But in 2003 or 2004 the TJ hardtops stopped having those air vent slots on them. And when airpressure inside the jeep became a bit more than the outside pressure then the rear hatch would pop loose from the tailgate.

I had that problem on my brand new jeep when I bought it in 2004. Many others had the same problem.

I even found the old thread on jeepsunlimited describing my ingenius solution...

Gap in back glass of hard top - JeepsUnlimited.com Forums

Chrysler eventually came out with a proper fix to the problem. A revised rear glass hatch with an extended lip behind the wether stripping to keep it from popping out from the tailgate.

CMEvans79 x2 on everything after the OP ... glass first then tailgate ... if you are doing that and your glass is not staying shut then something is wrong. but if you are shutting the glass and not shutting the tailgate and expecting it to stay shut it wont unless the hydro's are shot.

ryt2112 Yep, the tail gate should keep it shut when closed.

Just remember, glass closed first, then tailgate.

Vector6 it's kept closed by the tailgate

TJ Hard Top - Rear glass latch

I bought a hard top yesterday and put it on our 2000 TJ. Everything seems to be fine except the rear glass does not latch or lock closed. Can anyone describe what normally keeps the rear glass closed? Are there multiple options? A picture would be great. Thanks.
