newbie, checking in.
new to the forum and jeeps in general. I recently acquired a 94 YJ and was wondering if there was anything in particular I should be looking out for, specific weak points, strange quirks anything like that?
I bought the car for my gf and she loves it, but it does have its problems. First off we had a clutch problem, which (thanks to this forum) was fixed by bleeding the system. Lets hope it lasts. It also had a 12 inch gap in the exhaust pipe! Just got the car back from my mechanic last night and he says its fixed but I wasnt there to check. Lets hope he did a good job. There were also a few bolts and things missing but nothing major. Oh, and the rear brake cylinders were leaking and shoes were in a poor state. Once again, mechanic says he fixed them but we'll see. (You'll notice I have little to no confidence in my mechanic. This is because I live in africa and frankly, he's the best of a very bad bunch.)
Now, my main problem (ive tried searching the forum to find an answer but cant find anything specific to my issue. I did find one that sounded very similar but no solution was posted) is a knocking noise from underneath the car. It sounds like its coming from between the driver and passenger seats. Cant be 100%sure but I think I can feel it through the floor! It is constant with the speed of the car (speed of car goes up, so does the rate of the knocking noise). You can hear it at low revs in first and second gear but after that I'm assuming its drown out by engine noise.
As explained, I'm a newb here so pretty clueless, but I was thinking "driveshaft"? I've read a few posts on here about driveshaft issues after lifting a jeep due to driveshaft angle. My question is "does the same apply in reverse?". The front leaf springs are shot. Pretty much flat. Rear springs have 1-2" before being flat, if that makes sense. Could this cause a problem with DS angle? Would evening it out get rid of this knocking noise?
anyway, sorry for such a long first post, but this is gonna drive me nuts if I dont get it sorted out. Not to mention the wrath of the GF. Haha. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help out a newb.
