I have just confirmed by phone with Bestop, that contrary to what I had first been told, their 2-piece soft doors will, in fact, work with the hardtops.

I was talking about the OEM (Jeep) half-doors. The fit and finish on them will be the best, so they'll keep the weather out more.
The Bestop Element doors with skins and uppers are a viable alternative, but are more of a summer door. For all-season use, I'd stick with the Jeep bits- Mark W.

Third party. They are the Elements half doors from Bestop.

For either vehicle, a set of OEM half doors and uppers will be the better solution. They're a fair bit lighter than the full doors, and seal well against the weather. The kits for the JK were just released- they'll run around $1600 primered for both doors, windows, and the inner panels. A bit spendy, but NOBODY seems to have ordered theirs from the factory with halfies in the JK (sadly- I wanted them, and there was ONE in the Northeast at the time, and it was sold before I got to check it out ), so you will NOT find them used.
For the TJ, you'll likely be able to find OEM half doors for a whole lot less.

Need to replace full steel door with light weight door
I work for a water utility that has 2 TJ model Wranglers and 1 JK model Wranglers. They are equipped with hard tops - looks like they are probably from Bestop. All are currently equipped with full steel doors. Our meter readers use these vehicles in the course of their job.
As the Safety Coordinator, I have just learned that they typically drive the Jeeps to the area where they are going to be reading, and then remove the door, placing it in the rear. They do this process to avoid the cold and wet here in Washington they are exposed to while driving to the day's work area.
As the Safety Coordinator, that gives me some heartburn when I think of the ergonomics involved in removing the door then lifting it into the back of the rig. One of our readers recently mashed a finger removing the door from back of the rig.
So . . . I am trying to find a light-weight alternative to the heavy full steel door. Naturally, Bestop says that their doors for their soft top units will not work with the hard top. Do any of you have experience with such a retrofit?
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I and our meter readers would be real happy campers!
