GroundHawg I agree. It's normal behavior.

The only fix I know of for it is to turn up the radio. Jeep transmissions are noisy

mrcarcrazy Personally I wouldn't mess with it, until it explodes. Jeep transmissions make noise.

If you want to try something, try changing the fluid.

Transmission noise and Identification

My son has a 2003 4.0L 5sp TJ. It has a whirling sound only when in neutral and the clutch is released.

The mechanic has ruled out the throw out bearing and says it is in the transmission.

Can anyone tell me what type of transmission is in this wrangler?

Also where to buy a good rebuilt transmission at a reasonable price would be helpfull.
