KreigerADK hey buddy, my friend had the same problem, try taking off your front pumpkin plate and soak the guts with some kerosene to clean it out, let me know if it works

rickr mine did the same thing. only in the winter. must have been freezing up.replaced it with a posilock, and no more problems!

jeeperman No, not really. I know it is relatively cheap, and there are a few companies that make the manual disconnects to eliminate the vacuum. The other thing that you can do is swap in Cherokee passenger side inners to eliminate the disconnect all together. And I think that it is really that easy, but not sure... The downside is that your front axle with spin all the time, but that is how the Cherokees and the TJs are anyway... Just a thought! I am sure there is someone on the board that knows more about this than I do though. I traded my YJ for a TJ before I addressed this issue!

thanks for your input it could be that because when it was in the shop warm and backed it out it worked fine then when i needed it later it would pop out and grind thank god it worked in reverse. I was thinking after $500 in the front end it would be fine now I'm looking at putting a manual control in do you know anything about that

jeeperman Does it stay in 4-low? If so, you probably just need to adjust the linkage. If not, you may have some moisture in the vacuum system that is freezing. I had a similar problem (though no grinding) in my '91 YJ. I would put it in 4x4 after work, when it had been sitting outside all day, and it wouldn't engage at all. But when I got home and left it in the garage, where it was above freezing, it would engage right away. Gotta love vacuum disconnects!

4 wheel drive won't stay engaged

anyone tell me why the front axle won't stay engaged it grinds when you get into any slip, I've changed all the ujoints, and the vacum actuator its geting 16lbs of vacum so thats not it. its starting to p--s me off I got this 95 wrangler to have a little fun but its not working
