|BFV||yeah, when i first got it i hosed it down with wd40. it works great, except for the not working part, lol. I actually found the broken pin. I should probably be able to fab my own pin with little effort. And stevens243, yes im pretty sure it is a conspiracy. Take a look on any jeep that has a hilift, and most of the time there's not a scratch on it. But then if you don't have it, you are guaranteed to need it!|

|Ray - San Jose||Have you tried just oiling the jack? Most of the problems I've seen with Hi-Lift style jacks has come from a lack of maintenence rather than parts actually wearing out.|

If I didn't spend time and money on buying the jack and mounting the damn thing, you could HAVE mine. Never used mine. I think it's a jeep conspiracy to get us all to buy one (or re-build one). I've used a buddies (for his jeep) once. Ah, memories.
An expandable bottle jack would work much better in nearly every situation I've ever seen or used a hi lift.

Think of it this way...I've been wheeling for jmany years....never did I really "NEED" a hilift. Could you use it ..sure. I've got more use out of mine stretching wire when fencing.
Also you can pick up hilifts for $50 for the brand one and $25 to $40 for non brand hilifts.

|BFV||yeah, sudden realization. I was assuming it was a hilift.|

|distortedtj||Well that's different...it's not a hilift..I dought the hilift kit will work then.|

|BFV||i just went out and looked at it. Turns out its made by American Gage and Mfg. Co. Are they even still around? lol|

|distortedtj||I don't think hilift has ever changed thier design. Best bet would be to call them and ask. Over the years I've never seen a hilift that was differnent. But that doesn't mean they didn't have a REALLY early model.|

I have an old hilift jack from the 70s or maybe early 80s. Do you think a new hilift rebuild kit would work to get it back in prime condition? Are the parts interchangeable, or has something changed? The pin that catches as you lift it doesnt catch, so it lifts abou an inch, but doesnt catch... Any ideas?
