cavediverjc JKS makes some nice greasable shackles if you're interested. I'll see if I can find a link...

-EDIT- My bad, those shackles are for XJs, not YJs. Sorry.

Geoff@Bestop A moderate shackle lift should not cause other issues. Keep in mind that with shackles, you're only getting 1/2 the lift from the extra length - so a 2" longer shackle will lift you 1" (it's because you're only lifting the springs from one end).

That's probably going to get you back to about stock height, if you're running 1987 springs.

Anything longer than 2-3 inches can cause handling issues too. Be careful. (plus they stick down like "fangs" in the front of your Jeep and get hung up on stuff).

jpdocdave these are nice, and look to be stock length: Currie Enterprises CE-9039 - Currie R...YJ - Quadratec

and number 28 in this parts diagram is the original replacements: 1987-1995 Jeep® Wrangler YJ Replaceme...es - Quadratec

edit: here's a better link for the stock part: http://www.quadratec.com/products/56005_03.htm

shackle advice

I'm going to be getting a 2.5" lift kit for my 87 YJ. One of my stock front shackles is bent, so I have to replace at least one. I haven't been able to find stock ones online so I'm looking at after-market ones to install.

First question, if I install shackles that lift at all, will I have to install a SYE and brake-line extensions with the lift kit? It's hard to find replacement shackles without lift.

Any recommendations for brand of shackle? Any advice on changing them? I won't be doing any major climbing or rock crawling, so I'm thinking greasable ones are not needed.

Thanks!!
