There is no reduced wear benefit by going with manual hubs. Bearing & front-end design got good enough over the years that manual hubs are no longer needed to help reduce wear or improve mpg. I have had two Jeeps with aftermarket Warn hubs and when you're in 2wd, you can't tell the difference in anything with the hubs locked vs. unlocked.
There are other reasons to install manual hubs but none of those reasons include reduced bearing wear or improved mpg. Besides, how many $80 unit bearing hubs would you have to go through to equal the cost of a $900-1100 manual hub replacement kit plus labor?

|rketr||Yeah, the hub disco's are a little pricy, but they completely remove all the wear and tear on lotsa the components in the axle. Not to mention since they reduce friction they'll help (a bit) raise your MPG.|

|Manalive67||Didn't know they were both supposed to turn. Learned something today thanks. U-joints are shot that's how I noticed it thought something was wrong.|

Unless you install hub disconnects your inner axle shafts, carrier, and drive shaft will likely automatically turn. This does not mean that the engine is powering the front. The DS, etc are being turned by the tires and the gearing in the transfer case is just free spinning.
A little added friction, but nothing to be concerned about.
Locking hubs will allow the front wheels to spill freely at the hub.

front driveshaft keeps turning in 2wd help please
My front driveshaft keeps turning even though my shifter is in 2wd. I tried adjusting the linkage and didnt have much luck. I tried manually pushing the lever up on the transfer case and I couldn't get it to go up anymore. Has anyone else had this problem.
