Jerry Bransford Disconnect the battery's negative lead for 2-3 minutes to clear the CEL.

K.wag I believe they only turn off when reset. They don't just go off once the problem is fixed. A lot of auto parts stores will do this for free such as NAPA

luisf14 Hmm, there wasn't any water but i shot some WD-40 in there just in case.

The car is no longer back-firing, but the engine light is still on.

You guys think it'll turn off anytime soon?

I believe it still has a distributor. I'll see if there's any water in there.

Big Puddles = Engine Light & Backfiring?

Hey guys. Took my 2000 TJ off roading today. I went through some big puddles, splashin' water all about. Anyways, on the drive home, i noticed my car back-firing, and the check engine light turned on.

Any help on how i can fix this guys?

Thanks in advanced.
