|austin1869||I recently did a full fluid change on my 89 YJ. The night before I pulled the oil plug, drained the oil, run about a gallon of diesel through it and let it sit and evaporate til the next morning. no problems here. I did the diesel on the advice of a close friend who has been a mechanic for about 20 years, I have experienced no problems and I think it even runs a little better since the fluid change.|

it won't hurt it, as long as none is left in the engine. Thats key as it will dilute and thin out the oil.
Its also a good idea to run it for a day or two after the oil change, then drain and fill again to be sure your getting it all out of there.

|Garyk||I had a friend that did it for years, before an oil change he would dump some kerosene in his engine, run to the end of the street and back and change it.|

|jpdocdave||there's no harm in using a 5 min engine flush, i've actually done many, and i've torn down motors afterward, and it works. the engine flushes you can buy, you put in the crank case, run for 5 mins and then drain and change oil, are mostly kerosene.|

|Abomination93||here is a bit of knowledge about tranny fluid, it is 1/4 detergents and other cleaning agents which is why trannys if flushed on a regular basis are so clean.|

|windsoreight||I disagree, used the right way it can be done with no issue. When I picked up my 87 YJ it had been sitting for 5 years and the motor was severly sludged. I had the head off getting rebuilt. I filled the engine with 5 gallons of kerosene. I let it sit for 2 weeks. I installed the head. I drained the motor out and replaced the oil pan due to a leak. I filled it with fresh oil and filter. Cranked the motor with the coil disconnected to built oil pressure. The motor had 160K on it at the time now it is at 200k and runs great with no smoke.|

I wouldn't put any kind of solvent into the motor. It can do more harm than good.
Through a quart of ATF in the crank case about 50 miles prior to an oil change. You may have to do it a few times but it's not as harsh as Kerosene or other solvents on the seals.
If your want to use kerosene, I suggest removing the pan and cleaning it out off the motor.

diesel or kerosene engine cleaning
I'v heard of people pouring diesel or kerosene into the motor to clean the gunk out. I was wonder if any of you guys have done it how did it work and how do you do it. Thanks
