mrcarcrazy at least double the weight of the vehicle.

8k will do it, but so will 10...and 10 won't work as hard to do the same job...

TDCoffee I notice that you guys are all in favor of the 8000# models. Do you recommend the 10k for an unlimited, or will the 8k work just as well?

Six Gun Matt I like Jerry's synopsis on this exact same subject:

WTAggie Im not going to be using it every weekend. When i go to my deer lease, coast (to pull people out), mudding, nothing way too serious.

birdhunter How offen are you going to use it?
They are oK if you need it a few times a year or(just looks)
or on logging roads to pull trees or snow pulls
I think the warns are about 550 + but worth it
if you do rocks ,long pulls....

G54 Generally I think you will find that most people are not big fans of Smittybilt products. As far as winches go, again, generally most people would likely recommend Warn. You can get a Warn 8000 for under $600 - still quite a bit more than the SB. That being said, JP magazine did a cheap winch shootout a while back and the Smitty got pretty good reviews. Read here: Affordable Winch Buyers Guide - Smittybilt Tabor - Jp Magazine

I'm considering the same winch when the time comes.

Cons_Table I think that a majority of the people here will answer this question with the Warn m8000 winch as being the best bang for the buck. For just a little more than will have a quality which backed with an awesome warranty.

Good Winch

Smittybilt XRC-8 Winch

I have found this winch, it was advertised for 299.99 online and additional for shipping. Is this winch good or should i keep looking? Advice on a good winch under $500 would be appreciated.
