danieldlg_13 I loved Verizon!!! I wish I hadn't changed carrier, but I was getting shafted! I was paying 175/ month for unlimited everything on my Blackberry Storm, which sucked but I like the Blackberry concept. I get a girlfriend and then she wanted the Iphone so we switched to AT&T. Now we are grandfathered in to the old unlimited data package so I don't want to switch to the new data packages that restrict you to a certain amount of data a month... and I use it a lot! So getting back to my question, wait for the newer Ipnone or Atrix or Infuse 4g?

Peepers You mean AT&T still has wireless? I thought they were branching out into the cable TV business... I'm all verizon and havent looked back since we switched from Cingular which was bought out by AT&T... I hated their service...

danieldlg_13 I know its an old thread but I wanted to make use the "Search" feature and I didn't want to start a new thread.

I currently have the Iphone 3GS through AT&T, but I'm really tired of it. I am NOT changing carriers so no need for other phones that they don't already offer and I'm too lazy to "unlock" or "jailbreak" anything. I don't really want the Iphone 4. I could wait until the Iphone 5/Iphone 4s (whatever they decide to call it) comes out, but I don't know if I really like this set up. Currently I've been looking at the Samsung Infuse 4G, but the Motorola Atrix seems cool too. Anyone have these phones that could give their reviews on the phone and not be bias? What other AT&T only phone would you recommend?

Hexxum Oh.. and I don't EVER have any issues with the keyboard. I do know how to type, which makes it easier, but I can whip out a text in no time.
05-28-2010 02:17 PM
Hexxum I have a Blackberry Curve and absolutely love it. The extra 20 bucks it costs me a month comes in handy. I have an IM feature on my phone that I can IM directly with friends (kind of like texting but better). I also have several apps that come in handy, such as a fandango app that I can purchase movie tickets as soon as I know we are going and can see all of the show times, ESPN and SporsZone for my immediate up to the second sports scores and all of the local news stations. I even have an electronic Bible to study from and can just use that instead of carrying a bulky Bible into the service. Being able to access the internet at a moments notice to get information makes life very easy. I don't have the GPS feature, since I already have one, but I hear it is very nice too.

exactly...dont take OUR word for it. a phone is something you cant buy of the internet. treat it like a car and test drive it first.

As stated earlier, you are wrong....multitasking is a tricky word....there are things I cannot do on my NON JAILBROKEN iphone. but all the things you listed can be done on any regular iphone

Granted that's WAY overboard, and the phone doesn't have the internal memory to hold anything near that many apps.

I like the Apple iPhone, don't get me wrong. I just feel the Android platform is better.
Well Apple doesn't use folders, so Android wins there I guess. I can't argue that the Android OS is fantastic. I personally just can't stand the user interface. I'm used to the Apple interface, and it just makes sense to me.

But I just wanted to clarify that ANY off the shelf iphone can-

1. Have a phone call conversation while you look something up on the internet, open another app, play a game, text someone else.
2. listen to music while doing other things.(surfing web etc.) I'm doing this right now....

To anyone wanting a smartphone - don't go off my or anyone else's opinion. GO and play with them. hold them. Which do YOU prefer. This is much more important than what some Geek on the other side of the country thinks. There is a lot of hype and mis-information out there about all of these devices...so don't listen to any of it, try to get some first hand experience with them (even if its in the store). See which one you can navigate, and utilize easiest (if its not easy, most people won't do it.)

I could list out pro's and cons to both operating systems (since with Android we aren't referring to a single device...which to me is both a pro and a con). but it would take too long, and I think you'll be better off to find it out on your own (as it won't be nearly as biased).

FWIW I also prefer-
mac's to PC's.
Xbox 360 to PS3
Dollars to Euros.
Texas to all others.

APPSTATEwrangler well lets get this straight....you DONT need a smart phone. people have been living without internet on their phone for...well, ever. BUT, if you do get one, you will not regret it because their is so many things you can do with it and your life will be alot easier. so if you want to pay the mere 30$ extra a month for one, i would highly recommend an Android device. Forget the iPhone, android is gonna run the iphone and steve jobs into the ground.

i have the moto droid and would recommend it to anyone. its got the physical keyboard and the touch keyboard if you prefer one over the other. i actually really like the touch over the physical, but to each his own.

yes the moto droid is the "old" droid now since the incredible has came out, but it has a much better screen that the incredible, just not a fast. but i do not mean it is slow....because the moto is still VERY fast.
with multitasking, 16gb of removable memory (something else the iphone does not have), gorgeous screen, awesome video player, nice camera, and oh yeah a pretty good speaker and mic for clear calls......you should be happy with a droid device.

android is the way to go jgano.

cavediverjc I have the LG EnV Touch through Verizon and I love it. Just my $.02

AbbyK9 I suppose I am the only person on this forum who uses her cell phone for a phone's original intended purpose ... making calls. I even have text messaging turned off on it.

But I have heard a lot of good things about the Droid.
05-28-2010 10:13 AM
firehawk_1989 mrcarcrazy said it. You will use it much more than you think, no matter what smartphone you get. I'm glad I'm not the only person who loves being able to google random things that I wonder about on my phone!

The Droid also has an advantage of having folders that can be placed on any page, something else the iphone doesn't have. To be fair tho, the iphone does have a lot more apps than the android phones.
This isn't true....at all

My iphone is also synced up with my gmail account so I can do emails on the go. etc. It cuts down on the texts I use, since I don't have any friends, and the only people who would text me are my family, they all have iphones as well and usually just email me.

Jgano - the extra cost would be 20.00 a month, not 29.99 since your already paying the 9.99....I know it doesn't matter, but I thought I'd point that out. I never thought I'd use my iphone 1/2 as much as I do. I use it for everything. I'm curious about something google app. or internet search. I want to know where something is. Internet, or Maps.
games out the wazoo while I'm at work, and not working. or while I'm in the grocery store line. Heck you can surf the web while you drive!!! (yes, you CAN, but I don't advise you to try.)

I have a friend that went from the iphone to one of the ATT phones that uses android's OS. He loves it. but he's very "ANTI APPLE" so I take his words w/ a grain of salt...he loved the old startac phones 5 yrs after everyone else moved on. My iphone has put up w/ more abuse than any phone I've had. I got it shortly after the 3g came out, and its held up nicely. Much more than I can say for any motorola I've owned...

firehawk_1989 I know you said no $29.99 data plan. But I kinda thought the same thing, but once I got my Blackberry I was hooked the first day, and the data plan has been WELL worth it. I couldn't go back to a non smart phone, I love my apps and freedom too much!

mrcarcrazy Iphone 4.0 is definitely in the end stages of development.

It has been rumored for over a year that Verizon is getting the Iphone...If its going to happen, june-July is the perfect time for it.

Why July? Well that's when Apple usually brings out the new iphones....

I'm an iphone nut......I have a 3G. am waiting to upgrade until the 4.0 comes out....the 3G S wasn't a big enough of an improvement to pry my $ out of my hands.

EDIT - just read your last post - I have no idea between those three.

OSUJEEPER HTC Incredible, the best phone out there on verison at the moment. The Android software is awsome. It can be linked with google and facebook. IMO beft phone verison has. I wish I had it. I have the HTC Eris, the Incredible's little brother. I love my Eris and the Incredible is just better then the Eris in every way.

O look at the site to get some info on Android software and phones.

s3nt3nc3d Go with the enV Touch...if it's anything like the enV 2, it's a pretty good phone and I see it's got a REAL qwerty keyboard.

I bought my Alias thinking the smaller keyboard would be better, but with big fingers, it's hard to type on it plus my buttons are wearing off and even with it being tiny it's STILL too big to text one handed like when driving or busy at work (yeah yeah...new topic entirely, don't start it here...lol). I regret not getting the enV 2 which had a larger keyboard like the enV Touch has.

Edit: Well the Samsung Reality looks pretty similar to the enV Touch...so I'd say one of those...I'd just look up reviews and see which one has less annoying bugs and seems to not fail as quickly.

jgano23 DAMMIT!!!

ok, so new plan. i thought we had the data plan that supports the smart phones, but apparently not . so smart phones are out (ie: droid and iphone). i thought the $9.99 data plan supported them, but only the $29.99 plan does . i am so NOT going to pay an extra $29.99 a month for unlimited internet on my phone. so these are the new choices:
samsung reality
lg enV touch
lg chocolate touch

However, I would avoid any phones that only have a touch keyboard... my dad has a Blackberry Storm and I've used it a few times for texting. It's very difficult to text on...you're constantly bumping the wrong buttons if you've got even slightly larger fingers. It catches some of the errors and will pop up word suggestions, but it doesn't always figure out what you were trying to say...which can be a real PIA. I also have heard nothing but good things about the Droids. Seems like the HTC phones are really popular as well.

iphone is nice...but it's way more than most people need, plus you gotta pay for a data plan on it to take full advantage of its features as far as I'm aware.
I agree with the touch keyboard, I have small fingers and that was why I got rid of the iPhone. With any smartphone you have to get a data plan, that's why you have to see what your intentions are with the phone, so as not to be wasting money.
I have the BB Bold with ATT, and I like the idea of not having to write everything down on paper for reminders, I keep my grocery list on the phone, important events, appointments, and birthday's.
Those are some of the nice things about having a smartphone, but again everybody has their own needs.

Good luck jg, the Eris is a nice device. Look at the packages closely, there are some good deals where you can get unlimited text and web plus your talk minutes.
Or in your case, depending how many texts you send you can get a minimal package with an allotted amount of web and text.
But again keep in mind Android is a smartphone, so use it to it's full capabilities, you won't be disappointed. Keep us posted.

joemd60 Go with Android whether it be the Eris or Droid, Android is quickly making it's way to the top of the ranks. But your choice depends upon whether or not you like the touch or physical keyboard, BB makes a nice device if you are looking for a physical keyboard, to which I have on ATT.
T9 is becoming a thing of the past now that a lot of phones have the qwerty keyboard, also bear in mind the Android and BB are considered smartphones and require a smartphone connect plan.
