I agree. That's how irony works.

Jerry Bransford Crap, I let out a big 'awwwww' when I first opened up this thread and read Lee Ermey had died. I'm most relieved to learn he hasn't really passed away, Gunny Ermey deserves to live forever. I am now elated to find he is still alive, kicking, and probably desirous as hell of beating the hell out of whoever started that false rumor.

I know, right? People can really tick me off sometimes.

Ageless Stranger Jess. I'm watching "ten minutes of boot camp" on youtube right now. I'd link it but it's just a little rough for a family forum.

drivebytruckerz Gunny happened to be in Atlanta doing a filming of Mail Call and he was at my buddy's Marine Reserve unit the day he got promoted to LCpl. He got pinned by him. I was jealous. Still am.

kg4kpg Yep, guess it was a hoax. Here's an LA Times story. After I saw that post I searched the web and found nothing plus nothing was reported on the news. Good to hear though, he's always fun to watchg in the movies or his shows.

drivebytruckerz I know.. a one word response was my way of conceding that I didn't do the legwork to check before I posted. No worries.

N39-W120 Looks like this started yesterday some time.... It is a hoax and a release form Ermey should be out soon

Attention Marines! R. Lee Ermey is Alive and Well!

According to 2old2play.com one of their members started a forum thread announcing that R Lee Ermey had passed away. This hoax caught wind and the rumor has spread like wildfire. The Gunny is not only alive, but as strong as ever.
We will be posting the official press release from his team as soon as it is available. The Gunny is a member of the Marine family, and as such we feel it is of the utmost importance to spread the word that we will not allow him to be “killed off” by some prankster in the media. More information forthcoming….
R. Lee Ermey’s Team has put out an official statement for the press -
“It’s going to take a lot more than some Internet rumor to kill this old Marine,” said Full Metal Jacket star R. Lee Ermey. “I can state unequivocally that I am still alive.”
Ermey was responding to several Internet hoaxes reporting that the “Gunny” had died earlier in the week. In fact, Ermey was in Washington D.C. supporting the National Memorial Day parade and speaking about the bill in Congress to change the name of the “Department of the Navy” to the “Department of the Navy and Marine Corps”.
The bill has already passed the House of Representatives and currently has 78 Senate co-sponsors.
Ermey said a major reason for his involvement with the campaign was to properly honor Marines who have fought and died in battle.
“When the family of a fallen Marine receives a condolence letter, the Marine Corps name should be proudly mentioned,” Ermey said. “I don’t think that’s too much to ask for.”
Read more about Ermey’s recent adventures in a Washington Post article about the National Memorial Day Parade and his support of Marine Cause.

Ageless Stranger No apparently it was a hoax. I can't find any evidence that he's dead.

Subject: FW: Death of Gunnery Sergeant R. Lee Ermey - United States
Marine Corps

.RIP R. Lee Ermey, 1944-2010

It's with a heavy heart that I find myself writing this about someone
I've admired for many years. Ever since "Full Metal Jacket", R. Lee
Ermey embodied the image of a hard-*** Marine for most of us. He was a
person whose personal life was as interesting as the characters he
portrayed. Serving in the Marines from 1961-1972 as a staff sergeant,
he was later given the honorary rank of gunnery sergeant because of his
ongoing support of military personnel everywhere, and because of his
gritty portrayal of Gunny Hartmann.

He had a decorated career before being medically retired in 1972 because
of the numerous injuries he sustained in his years of service. Ermey's
service awards can be seen here:

Ermey succumbed to complications associated with pneumonia at 3:14 AM at
his home in San Diego. His nearly sixty film appearances will continue
to inspire and cement his legacy for many years to come.

Give 'em hell, Gunny! Now Guarding the Gates,

A slow hand salute
