you can also use the bolts that hold it in, just put your socket on the head so you don't damage it. You shouldn't need a BFH. You not trying to force it out. You just need to persuade it to cooperate.
Make sure it comes out straight. If you cock it in the hub it will be much more difficult to get them out.

great, I get it now, as they say a pic is worth a thousand words.
they also mention getting 3 extra bolts to use to hammer it out, both interesting ideas.

ok, I will admit I don't know what you are talking about, but I do want to know, so can you dumb this down for a noob a little? I get the basics of pushing it out from the back (I think) but I guess I am unclear on the specifics. I have the sockets, where do I put them? You don't mean the axle tube where the axle nut came from I assume...?
would the jeep need to be on for the power steering to assist?

|4Jeepn||get a 2-3" socket place it on the axle tube and the yoke of the shaft so that when you turn the steering wheel the socket will force out the hub.. you may have to due this several times in different locations. ON re install... use some anti sieze on the area.|

hub / bearing assembly stuck
in the process of pulling my hub/bearing assembly off, to get to the drive shaft, so I can replace u joint in my front axle.
the thing is stuck, won't come off. I have removed the axle nut, and the three bolts that theoretically hold on the hub/bearing assembly. They all came off 1,2,3.
I have checked my haynes and chiltons, and they both say "slide/remove off hub/assembly", as if this is a no brainer step. I have been going at it for a couple hours with PB, rubber mallet, hammer, larger hammer, crowbar, sledge and cats paw to try to separate it. I have been able to move it maybe 2-4 mm away from the dust shield, and the metal looks ok inside. Filled with more PB. Now waiting. What can I do to get this friggen thing off? am I missing a step?
I have glanced over at my air compressor...it wants to be used with my air chisel to help "solve" this problem...but often I find that causes more harm - but feels really really good.
So, what do I do? anyone had similar experience and found success?
