put on the fuel pressure regulator last night. It was late, so just a drive around the neighborhood. Got up early this morning to drive it a bit more, did about a 3 mile trip, so far ok. Stopped, looked under the hood to check, I can hear something hissing, like there is a leak somewhere but can't figure out where. Then I notice where it looks like something has been dripping out form the base of the carb. I would assume gas, but its dark brown, like it has motor oil in it! I am assuming this can't be good.
What have i gotten myself into??

mameyj I use 87 octane and as far as brands, I use arco or mobil haven't noticed a difference between the two.

mameyj You can get the regulator at any auto parts, I got mine from autozone for 20 bucks it goes on the fuel line between the filter and the carb. You should also look up nuter bypass, my jeep was running like crap before i did it to mine.

Also mameyj, what fuel do you run in your weber? Have you noticed any issues running fuel with "up to 10% ethanol"? I don't know if some brands of gas are better about not having as much of that or not, and what grade fuel do you run? I assumed the 93 is always best, but I have never had a carbureted vehicle before, so I am not sure. Thanks for the info!

No i don't have one. Can i rent one of those from a auto/hardware store you think? if not, whats the cost on something like that?

s_man692000 DRY GAS ,I have also heard of people using acetone ,but never tried it .But you should be able to get dry gas just about anywhere .

what carb did you go with ?
its the Weber carb. I was able to install a new fuel pump, cranked it up, and it was idleing very good. Then it sputered and died. Checked everything, realized I had tightened the hose onto the fuel filter a bit too tight (its the clear plastic one) and had pinched the nipple. So i loosened it a bit. While doing this, I noticed some deposits in the fuel filter, and what looked like maybe a few drops of water!
You guys know of whats best to do for this? is there an addative that works well for this?

scott howard Take it back to the person who you paid to install your carb and have him check it for vacuum leaks. this is very common after a new carb is installed.
what carb did you go with ?

i don't think thats it. The battery is only a few weeks old, and I put new terminals on the end of the batery cables. but I will look at it again to make sure, at this point I am willing to look at anything in order to not regret this purchase, and not be forced to sell it!

flatline check the fuel for water/dirt. some carbs have a small filter on or in the carb. worked on a RV for a friend and there was dirt in the tank. run good then the carb filter would plug. just pull line off of carb, have a cup to catch fuel, dissconect coil so it won't start, and have someone crank motor. this also gives you a chance to check flow, and to put a presure gauge on line to check presure.

AfterMath Have you tried cleaning your battery connections? They could be oxidized and causing this issue. Use a wire brush and clean the terminals on the battery and the cables.

New Jeeper. Fuel Issue? 2nd post

Hey guys,
well I made a post about a week about an issue I was having. If you want the long story, its on posted on the first page of posts, titled "new jeeper. Fuel issue?". But for a summary, had a new carb put on by mechanic, ran great for 2 days. Now, after about 5 or more minutes of driving, jeep sputers and loses power if going more than 30 mph. Sometimes it dies completely, but I can only continue to drive it if I slow down to about 25 mph or less.
If I step on the gas pedal, I can still hear the carb hissing, but there is no acceleration. I am new to this, so I don't know if this is a fuel issue, or a spark issue, but here is what I have done to try and solve the issue.
new: battery, carb, fuel lines, fuel filter, ignition coil, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, plug wires, ignition control moduel.

What could this be? I have thought maybe fuel pump, o2 sensor. The vacum lines are connected and look ok.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again guys, this site has already proven to be very helpful
