EdJonesJeeper I got lucky and just last week on craigslist list found one out a 01 tj that was geared my 3.73 with trackloc no axleshafts 200$. He's a jeep guy that put a pre built 44 in and took the shafts as spares.

1 You will notice only durability, when you make it home under your own power insead of on a tow truck

2 Your probably going to end up picking up a Dana 44 used so its gona come with gears, find one with a factory LSD and run that. Save the money of buying a LSD or locker and use it to regear your new Dana 44. I have a Dana 44 rear with factory LSD i am really happy with it. (do a lot of 2wd wheeling)


3 Unless your going wheel like a madman a LSD proves just a useful as a locker, without the steering/tire wear issues.

After all this don’t think im a total hater on lockers i own another vehicle equipped with lockers (that i love) but its a exclusive hardcore wheeler 77 Chevy pickup.

Mostly Mountain, trails, and back country roads. I live 15 mins from Pismo Dunes in CA but i dont want romp it through the sand much cuz i know the sand cant be good for it. I also want to do the Rubicon trail, few hours north, but wont be doing anything terribly insane.

distortedtj First yep you already know you need to regear to get the power back. If you plan to stay with the 33's 4.56 is right on the money for the ratio you will need.

There are several endless options out there for you as far as axle/lsd/lockers combos.

If you do wish to wheel or off road replace the rear D35c axle or upgrade it with a Superior super 35 kit. The stock D35 wont last long wheeling with 33's or bigger.

Locker / LSD/ Front/ Rear.....well that also all depend on what you plan to use the vehicle for. So...what will you be using the jeep for bud?

Finally bought it...Help me build it :)

So I finally found what i was looking for and bought it. Now Id like some input on building it. First jeep so fairly unfamiliar to this. Any input is appreciated.

2004 Wrangler Willy Edition (9,000 miles)
6 cyl.
5 speed manual
4'' Pro Comp suspension lift
33'' Pro Comp Mud tires
Warn Wench 9.5
Rear Rack
CB radio
d30 front, d35 rear
3.07 Gears

So first on my priority list is regearing, the 3.07 with 33'' are killing me. I dont even think it will tow my waverunner. I am debating however....
1) Doing gears only (4.56)
2) Doing gears and limited slip and/or selectable locker(s)
3) SAVING and waiting to buy complete D44 axle with gears and/or locker, I think i can save some $$ on labor and swap the axle myself but then still have to pay to regear front.

Questions
