Gear oil leak from Bell housing

I have 88 4cylinder with a 5 speed transmission and recently changed my rear main seal because I had bad leak from the bell housing. The very same I replaced the main seal I continued to see the leak. so I assumed I installed the seal incorrectly. ( I know that I installed the seal a bit too far in, not flush). So I figured I would have to do the seal again but I was checking around the leak and realized that it is actually gear oil?? it is clear and it smells different than motor oil....
What is the possible cause of this leak? input shaft seal? if so, would it leak from the bell housing?

thanks in advance
