I painted my grilles and headlight bezels body color. The grilles were polished. I sanded them, sprayed with adhesion promoter then Duplicolor but they still chip. They keep me busy with the bottle of touch up.

|Ageless Stranger||Nice job. Those look great!|

They should hold up pretty well, I think. With 2 coats of primer, 6 coats of black, and 4 coats of clear, they better last for a few weeks at least. Well, I hope they do anyway
Next step will probably be lining the tub. And some seat covers to have me set for the rest of the summer

|InfernoGirl||Inserts look great, I hope the paint holds up on them. Glad you figured out how to get them out! That Neil guy knows lots of stuff!|

Thanks Neil, that did the trick! I have taken them out and repainted them, now they look fantastic!!!
I also FINALLY flushed my tail lights, I had to wait for the lite bolts a bit longer than I thought, but now all is good!! I'll post pics of them soon, modded my evap canister and all is good

|Neil F.||Pull out a headlight. There is a rubber flap between the grille and headlight area. You'll be able to reach in to the first one. Once you get that one out you can do the rest.|

|InfernoGirl||Google Billet inserts, see if you can find some that look like yours, and find the installation instructions. Do it backward...|

|CMEvans79||OIC ... Ok, well ... Hmm good luck... looks like if you take that nut off they would come off... I cant really tell in the pic.|

|HOUND||I'd like to take them out to paint them black so they match the headlight bezels and trim pieces. They are a billet aluminum, based on the info I found, so perhpas with the sides of them remaining blllt, it won't give them a "too flat" look.|

|CMEvans79||I think it looks cool... why are you taking them out?|
|06-13-2010 01:32 AM|
The first two pics here show the grille inserts. The third pic shows a sort of flange that the nut holds against the inside of the grille. Each insert has two of these flanges, one on top, and one on the bottom.
I don't see any simple way to pop/squeeze/snap these things in or out. Any ideas??

Got a pic?
The inserts I had just popped right in from the front...squeeze the sides lightly and pull em straight out. No idea what you're describing without a pic...

|TheGG54||I don't know how they mount, but after you paint them and replace them, please post pics. I was considering some black ones for my Jeep, but couldn't find many pictures of them. Thanks|

How do I get these inserts out of my grille?
Good Afternoon All,
I have these inserts in my grille that look to bolt tight from behind the grille and have a long u-shaped clamp that holds them tightly by spanning the grille openings on both the top and bottom. The only one I can get to is the top center insert when I reach in through the safety latch opening. Can someone tell me if there is a trick to removing these things? Do I need to remove the entire grille? They are chrome/billet looking, and I would like to paint them black to go with my headlight bezels.
