sidebar78 if you need a good quality Relay set up,with no worries, contact Ray's Auto at 1-770-265-1004 he's the guy who been building them for years for the Ford off road crowd,and will build them for a Jeep. each one is custom made to your needs,I found him after much searching. I read where the Ford boys were using these in Mustangs and off road trucks so I figgered some one had to be making a good set up.this guy's been building them for years and uses only the best parts and has worked all the bugs out,just tryin to help

just4fun When I had the fan on my ford truck I a two way switch for hi an low speed and a fuel pump relay from summit racing. Now when spring gets here I want to put it on my jeep but with the controller so it comes on at a certain temp. And so when I use the ac it bumps to the hi speed

MikalCarbine just4fun, did you do any fancy relay wiring or buy a controller? I plan on buying the FK85P, pricey but well worth the PWM fan control

just4fun I got a fan from a taurus also and I know it keep my big block ford cool I know it wont have any problem with my 4.0

tobycat1 Hey guys I'm back. Well I still never had a problem with my fan, got better milage and more power. It paid for itself already I believe. Unfortunately about 2 weeks ago my jeep is dead, R.I.P Sheila. Get the fan, it works great! Ill be posting a thread up today about my girl's death, and how ill be hopefully spending the 10k insurance is giving me on a new rig.

junny My friend and me both have the ffdynamics systems installed,we went that way because of the price and because of the life time anything goes warranty,there fans are built tough,there not the normal plastic fans that pep-boys sells,they are very soft almost silicone like,the housing and the fan blade are not plastic thats for sure,so far offroaded and snow plow tested,its a best mod for the money in my book.

MikalCarbine I've read a bunch about fan blades breaking constantly, not my cup of tea. I'm sure there are people who never have the problem but I'd rather not personally deal with it

ajorosa Can you please elaborate on the negatives. Installed my flex-o-lite a year ago and so far no problems. The eBay flex-o-lite fans come from the manufacturer under a different name. Mine was missing the coolant bottle bracket and they sent it for free.

Peepers I picked up the flex-a-lite 475, made for the jeep, bolt in kit off e-bay for $200. Haven't had a chance to install it yet because I had some other issues, then it got too cold. I'll be putting it in this spring though... Warm weather come quickly... please...

junny After a rough winter of mondo ny snow storms I can tell you guys who snow plow that an electric fan setup works great for the snow plow peeps out there.Me and my friend have been plowing in the last few winters afor extra cash and we have alot of local fast food spots and smaller sized parking lot accounts that we do,last winter on the bigger storms we would both boil over during the plowing on the bigger lots and we would have to throw some snow into the radiator grill and let them cool down for a few minutes,we both run 4.0l engines.This summer we both went with electric fan kits,they worked when offroading great,we were both impressed,gas milage also increased which was even better,we were a little bit unsure of how they would do if we got big snow this year. The results are in,the jeeps ran through the snow without a hitch,not one boil over,no over heating at all.We were pushing snow that would bog our jeep down to a stop and still no problems with temps.

Snow plows and electric fan systems are a must if you are pushing big snow.

junny My wrangler had a perfect working clutch cooling fan during everyday work and normal off roadin,on the steep climbs in weather in the upper 80's and higher I would redline the temp needle,my co-worker has a wrangler x also,he used to overheat on these same steep trails and he switched to the ffdynamics fan setup and has not overheated once,he's the one who put me on the ff dyn fan setup,so I know its not only my wrangler thats for sure.

Nah man, Ive seen many friends with wranglers and yotas overheat on long crawls over rocks under high work loads. The downfall of the OEM fan is that it relies on engine speed, and even then doesn't pull nearly as much air as an electric fan can. Although in general it is only the 6 cyl guys I see overheat.

Something must have been wrong with your OEM fan...a properly working OEM setup won't overheat.

junny Yes I agree with toby,my wrangler runs so much cooler when I am trail driving now that I have the electric fan setup.there are a few steep grades with rocks and ruts that takes about 20 minutes to get up to the top,last summer on the hot days by the time I would make it to the top my temp needle would be right at the red zone. I hit that same climb 4 times this summer so far and I stay right around 210 mark.low speed driving difference is night and day as far as cooling goes.the fan in the ffd setup pushes a ton of air so I doubt a shroud would make it cool any better.

tobycat1 Id say that my electric cools 2-3x better at least when at low speeds over my old mechanical fan, so I think you should be fine without shroud, just make sure you dont skimp on the fan and get one that has a good CPM.

If the kits seal up on the rad and take up a decent amount of rad. Should be fine without shroud. However it completely depends on the efficiency of the install.

When in doubt shroud it!

I'm thinking I'll do this to mine, even though it's primarily an on road vehicle.

doclouie I wonder with these fan kits how they work when crawling without a fan shroud? I crawl Moab and rarely go over 15mph and it gets hot there in the summer 110.

junny My wrangler is a 4.0l so my results will be close to what you will get i guess,not just mileage, yes it sounds crazy but it feels much more crisp and faster on take off,definite power gains that i felt.

i got mine right from ffdyamincs

legman68 So it appears most of the results are from you 4 bangers, what about 4.0's anyone? More for mileage than anything.

Mine doesn't have temp settings, it has a screw you turn. Mine is set pretty high actually, like 3/4 a turn from the highest setting.

junny I have this ffdynamics fan kit also and for me it was easy the best mod for the money.I also averaged 1.7 mpg increase from it and yes its more fun to drive with the extra zip it has,its also so much quieter when driving.The dash mounted water crossing switch is a nice touch.

tobycat1 BTW, don't worry if your engine runs 5 degrees or so warmer on the freeway at full speed. Mine does now with the electric fan. I think it mainly has to do with constantly running my engine at over 3000 rpm on the freeway do to my gearing. Usually with my mechanical fan I'm sure it would usually be spinning like crazy draining my mileage and cooling the radiator down more than air flow alone can do, resulting in a cooler engine. The electric on the other hand cools the radiator only when its above the set temp, so it has yet to run when I am driving at full speed on the freeway.

If you have a stock radiator I have found it works best with a shroud. If your running an aluminum or a radiator that is more efficient than stock you can get by without a shroud if the fan covers enough radiator surface to cool the engine and has enough CFM.
I found that when running an electric fan with a shroud they don't seem to cool as well at highway speeds but they cool better in stop and go traffic or wheeling at low speeds.
Without the shroud they cool better on the highway but not as well in town or wheeling at low speeds.
If you will be crossing water or submering the fan you will need to have a manual switch to cut it off before crossing or submerging the fan.
I have found these parts to be fairly similar for me, although I think that with a 2.5L engine the HP gain is significant. If my engine was say a 4.6L stroker or 5.7L v8 I doubt I would even feel it, but 2.5L engines are bogged down by even the smallest thing, like the mechanical fan.
