|toshpate||I am all over a warrenty, especially in a jeep, just saying, you look at them wrong and something breaks, but, I still have two and love them, and I am going to go apologize to her so it doesn't break on me for bad mouthing her here!!! maybe get her some lucas as an apology!! ha ha just kidding, good luck, and from what I can tell and have read you can get bigger tires from the get go with no lift on the JK which will improve its looks and stance|

I went with the JK! He sat in the driveway looking at me with shocked eyes, like he was expecting to be violated. So, of course, I took his clothes off! He's a blast so far. I really like feeling the bumps of the road, unlike the disconnected feeling of a lot of vehicles these days. I'll post pics as soon as I can but right now my terrible camera just doesn't feel like staying on more than 3-4 seconds before going back to sleep.

I was in a similar situation a few months ago. I was looking at an 05 Rubicon. After test driving it and knowing it would be my daily driver I didn't think it was worth the money. It was louder than the JK, rode worse, and had an awful interior, all things that don't matter for wheeling but for a daily driver are factors to consider.
As a compromise I ended up with a 2010 Rubicon lol More offroad ability than I'll ever use plus the nicer creature comforts the JK comes with that make it a better DD. There's also the warranty and the fact that you know how it was treated before you got it.
It might not hurt to look for JK Rubicons. When I was looking I saw a few lightly used ones for low 20s. You'll even be able to get some good deals on a new one if you can find one that doesn't have $10k in options thrown on it

|Boulder City Boulders||IMO If you are driving it mostly on the paved roads, the JK is great choice. You can still take that X almost anywhere off-road. Doesn't sound like you'll be doing anything crazy offroad. I have a bone stock 06 TJ Unlimited and it has taken me places I never imagined, good thing is we can always upgrade them if we need to.|

Buy the Rubicon
I am also looking at purchasing the TJ Rubicon at this time. I do not care for the bigger new models. I like the TJs because it is a modern version ofthe CJ-7s of the 70s. It is approximately the same size as the 7, which has been just right in my opinion.
The jeep TJ and CJs are, and always have been 2 passenger plus camping gear vehicles. If you are hauling 4 people and gear, then you might prefer the new 4door model. But I would rather have pickup over the new larger units.
Just my opinion.

I test drove both and I'm going to have to say...and you might hate me for it...but I think I'm going to go with the X. When it comes to wheeling I am a complete newbie. The most I've ever done is gone through a deep puddle on my Echo when we had excessive rain. The fact that the X still has warranty time left on it and was in much better condition is what is swaying me in that direction. Between driving the two, the TJ left a better impression in my head I think. But I think that might have had something to do with the accompanying salesmen. The Rubicon had a nice, laid-back old gent who just tossed a key in my hand and gave me a wink. The X salesman was sooooo cliche, and made sure I knew he was my bestest pal in the whole wide world.
My fiancee liked the JK much more as well and once she rode in both I had to hear an earful about how a TJ was out of the question right now. All in all, I would still love to have a TJ sometime. They're have a much cuter face and the gas pedal was very inviting. But considering this would be a daily driver with 4x4 learning on the side I think it may suit me more for the time being.
But hey, I'm still all ears!

i basically had the same choice as you when i bought my jeep. i had an 06 Rubicon, and a 2 door 07 JK. I opted for the JK due to it's lower mileage. the suspension on a JK doesn't need built up as much and a little lift will go a long way in terms of tire size.
for the price i paid for my JK, i can build it much cheaper in the long run compared to the cost of even a brand new Rubicon.
lots of folks like Rubicons. i'm in the minority though that doesn't see what all the fuss is about. more Jeepers like TJ's better too. once again, i don't see what the fuss is about. it comes down to what you want to do with it. i liked the idea of not ripping alot off a Jeep and building it up big, the low mileage on top of that sold me.
i bought the 07 X over the Rubicon and to this day don't regret it. yeah i'd like a front D44, but i'll get one when i bomb this d30 off some goofball that bought a Rubicon and took everything off it

|snwchris||Just my .02 cents.... typically you don't buy a Jeep for sound system, but will admit it's good enough and if you get the Rubi it will have mud terrains in which you'll probably have to turn the radio up anyways when driving with the top down.. lol|

Goodness, thanks for all the quick replies. I have been doing so much research on these little guys lately it's insane. I test drove one for the first time today and coming from a Toyota Echo and now a Camry, I must say the ride was much different than what I'm used to. But not in a bad way!
My first car was the Echo, and I might have disliked it at the time, but it made me completely non-reliant on luxuries. Thanks to that little beast I really don't consider power windows/locks a necessity...though cruise control (which the Echo didn't have) is very nice. I happened upon the Camry more recently, as it was my father's and he passed away a few months ago. I handed the Echo down to my younger brother hoping he'll take the hint and get the driving itch.
I am not going to be doing any serious wheeling at first, mostly smaller things I've been researching, but building up to the harder trails. That ability is what turns me on to the Rubicon. Money really has a lot to do with my decisions, and it would be costly to upgrade the 2009 to the capabilities of the Rubicon, something I'm hesitant to do. Since I'm on the topic, how is the premium sound system in the 2006 TJ? I have been looking all over but I can't find diddly about it. I know the "premium" version of the JK is an Infinity system with a 368W amp.

Its all going to come down to what appeals to you more. I have owned my TJ for a few years and I love the thing. I also just recently purchased an 08 Rubicon. I love the new style of the JK as well.
If you want something thats going to handle better offroad then def go with the Rubicon...no questions. It has better gearing, better axles, locking diffs..you get it...

|nickhaire20||a jeep purchase really has a lot to do with what you plan to use it for, and of course, cosmetics(which one looks better to you) me personally, i had a 05 X with small lift and meaty tires and i loved it. and that was my 3rd jeep. but....i traded that one for an 06 Rubi(lockers, 4.11's. premium sound, the whole rubicon gig) and i really love it. the biggest advantage i've found is the gears and lockers, but i wheel my jeeps hard, and often. plus, those big block letters that spell rubicon on the hood adds curb appeal and commands respect.|

TJ hands down. First of all, it's a TJ......so that right there is smart money. Secondly, it's a Rubicon, and that's smarter money. So in case I'm not being clear enough, I'll make it easy for you in big blue letters........

Rubi for sure! TJ's rock! Honestly, more jeep for less money... where's the question.... Miles aren't a big deal on a 4.0L that hasn't been abused.

|JDsDream||Hi and welcome to the forum. I personally would go with the Rubicon. I don't have anything against the JKs but the TJs are proven. If it is strictly a daily driver )asphalt only) then it is really up to you and what creature comforts you are wanting. If you plan on using it as it should be used then definitely the Rubi.|
