popa I have a Superwinch EPi 9.0 and I'm happy with it (thouh I didn't used/abused it long enough).

lancetkenyon Warn. Enough said. I would not trust my life to any other winch. And sometimes, that is what it comes down to.

03 RUBI As Jerry says, the winch IS NOT a place where you want to cut corners to save a few bucks. It can be the difference between getting you (or someone else) out or.....[insert worst case senario here].

Jerry Bransford I'm on the Warn boat myself, I'd save a little longer to get the much better quality of something like Warn's M8000. Even having one of Warn's less expensive but still American-made Tabor line of winches would make me much happier than having something like a Smittybilt. In fact, I would not buy a Smittybilt winch (or anything else by Smittybilt who now makes all of their junk in China) even if I were desperate. I'd wait/save longer until I could get a good quality winch instead. To me, Smittybilt and the rest of the bunch of Chinese-made winches are little more than junk that give a false sense of security.

I do have one or two Chinese tools in my garage but if one of those breaks, it's no big deal as my garage is full of backup tools or I can drive to the store if need be to buy a replacement. But on the trail, I don't carry a backup winch. I need my winch to work and I want a winch that I feel I can trust because in some wheeling areas, your winch is the only thing that's going to get you out.

When it comes to self-rescue, it's better to spend a little extra coin in the beginning than to go with the lowest bidder and have problems when you really need an extraction. Just my $.02.............

The people on the thread liked this, but i'm waiting to save some extra bucks to buy a new bumper though, cause I think the plastic ones are horrible!
Uh .... my Jeep doesn't have a plastic bumper.

cavediverjc Abby, you can pick up an 8000 lb. Warn for under 6 bills and it'll have a better warranty than anything else you're likely to find. When it comes to self-rescue, it's better to spend a little extra coin in the beginning than to go with the lowest bidder and have problems when you really need an extraction. Just my $.02.............

Rubicon10 I saw this on another thread...there is a mounting bracket from rough country to put your winch on the factory bumper:

Vaultzz Indeed, infact it has the LOWEST price tag for any 8500 lb winch

Hey are you looking through my quadratec wishlist?? Yep that'll do fine, I plan on getting it and my buddy uses it for his 9000lb WARN winch

Vaultzz 1. Yes, all you need is a winch plate that bolts over the bumper

2. I've decided on the winch I'm getting so I recommend it
Superwinch 9034 - Superwinch EPi 9.0 Winch - Quadratec

2.5. This winch should be ideal for you if you just need it for little things

3. NO!

Winch questions?

Alright, couple o' stupid winch questions ....

(1) Can you mount a winch using the factory front bumper or is a bumper change in order to mount a winch?

(2) Recommend an inexpensive winch?
I don't do a lot of off-roading, so I am looking for a winch good enough to self-extract should I, for example, get myself stuck in winter. Something inexpensive that is halfway decent.

(3) Follow-up to #2 - Smittybilt winches any good?
