|specialk0412||So...I got the map. Thank you, Joel. But I have to ask this again, because I'm just not seeing it - entrance to the powerlines? Like street, cross street, that kind of thing.|

OMG I had intended to be done posting in this thread. But seriously you think it takes a sign or gate to make it illegal?
It's amazing we have any place left to ride with that kind of thinking.
|10-15-2014 02:00 PM|
email@example.com and I'll add you to my map of Off-Roading Sites on Google Maps. That has the locations in the area you are talking about. However, if they are now marked No Trespassing or there's some other reason why it may be illegal to enter, then don't go there. Also, if you do find a gate or something else to prevent you from entering, tell me and I'll update the map to that effect.

|specialk0412||Where is the entrance to the powerlines? I mean, IF I wanted to drive up there and check it out, not to do illegal wheeling....Just saying....|
|09-27-2014 10:26 PM|
It's hard to imagine that an area like the Suwanee/SugarHill power lines, with two clear entrances and no other way in, and with the most obvious evidence in the world that people are wheeling on it all the time, wouldn't have at the very least a No Trespassing sign at those two entrances IF the owner cared to stop people from driving it. I'm not saying he legally HAS to have that, but for Pete's sake, there comes a time when Public Domain law comes into play. If people are obviously using the land as a pass-through for 7 years, and the owner has made no efforts to stop such use, even going so far as to post a simple sign at the entrances, then the owner can lose the right to block public passage in the future.
But I'm not here to argue law -- only the fact that Ga Power sure doesn't seem to care as far as I can tell.
But hey, stay away if you want to! The fewer people who enjoy the powerlines, the more pristine it will be for me. (Enjoyed an hour up there this afternoon.)

Lack of No Trespassing signs or gates really doesn't mean anything. If you are not on a known public roadway you need to know who owns the property and have their permission to be on it. Power Lines and property behind "X" establishment are clearly not legal.
We have enough problems with reputation in the Off Road community. As a group we need to be responsible and stick to the legal stuff. No matter how harmless dodging down that wooded trail you find may seem, we must resist the urge.
I know some will continue doing what they do, but I at least needed to say it.

|joelbarrett||Agreed, anything that says "No Trespassing" is off-limits and you could pay the price if you're caught there. I wouldn't do it. There are however many dirt roads and open or somewhat open (overgrown) trails you can find if you look closely. Some are gated and obviously off-limits; others aren't and are publicly accessible. When you have a Jeep, if you aren't afraid of some scratches, there are lots of old dirt trails you can find.|

I have seen jeeps towed away at owner expense by the Mall of GA power lines. I assume ticketed also.

|Michellestemper1221||Yes I agree with you , There really isn't a lot in Gwinnett.|

I think you may be talking about something that will be on the right if you're driving towards that walmart from old norcross on Lville Suwanee. If that's what you're talking about then I've driven past it for years always curious about what's back there. Satellite image indicates that there's very little. Honestly it's probably not legal and that's why I've never ventured back there. Other trails in the Hiawasee area are Charlie's creek and bell Mtn. Near dawsonville there is sheeps wallow. Do a quick search and you'll find info about them. The Jeeps on Trails website has them documented as well.
Edit: as far as gwinnett goes, there's really nothing that's legal.

I want to know more about the "powerlines" area. Wife does our grocery shopping there at the Wal-Mart between Sugarloaf & L'Ville Suwanee... it's around that area right? Where would I find an entrance? Is it legal?

I know this is an old thread (lol, I started reading it just now and saw things like, "Let's meet up next Wednesday at the so-and-so" and started getting excited. Then saw it was from 2011! )
Anyway, funny story about the Sugar Hill power lines. I am shopping for my Wrangler in March. I have a fatherless kid I mentor every week who lives in Sugar Hill. So I'm driving with him towards Mall of Ga and see a Jeep dealer. Stop in and they have a JK 3.6 with 6 speed manual, which I haven't been able to find anywhere for a test drive -- all autos.
Salesman tosses me the keys, and me and the boy go for a test drive. We're just cruising around the backstreets, paying no attention to things (I don't know the area all that well.) Come out at a parking lot next to the big old building that used to be a foundry or mill or something and is now a collection of shops, I guess. I turn into the parking lot and just cruise through. It's dark out, raining slightly, parking lot empty.
I cruise to the back of it, notice a slight part in the bushes. I nose the Jeep up into it and suddenly, like the Pevensie children stepping through the Wardrobe and into Narnia, I found myself in an off-road wonderland! I started easing down into the dirt and went about halfway down the first hill before realizing I was going to make a terrible mess of somebody else's Jeep and I didn't want to do that.
So I took it back and bought my own from him. On the way home from picking it up (I had to order so didn't get it till May 3) my first stop was at the power lines! Been back several times since. I like most of it, but that narrow bridge at the low point, when it's wet, pretty easy to slide off sideways and have to winch yourself out. (Just sayin'...

Awesome! Good that your fiancee had a blast too... that could be a deal killer if she didn't.
Also, do you have a location for the Charles Creek road? If so, I'll add it to the list.
|08-10-2014 09:44 PM|

|Armin||There is a place called union grove down in lithonia. Legality is debated though. I know tons of people that go there on like a weekly basis, but when i went there, the cops told me to leave. . . along with the 7 cruisers, 4 bikes and one charger awaiting me at the gate. Someone called the police previous to the event though, and i WAS the only one dumb enough to show up, even though someone threatened to phone them.|

if you're looking for a good place to get a little mud on the tires, there's a big dirt lot in the woods off of GA92. its just next to the lifetime fitness, across the street from the Woodlands neighborhood. Theres a bumpy oval track, a couple jumps and mud pits, and a steep loose dirt hill to climb up.
