I have a 1997 TJ 4.0L. All stock. I use synthetic 5/30 oil with a low 166000 miles.
My 97TJ had same problem, I moved from Atl,Ga to Montrose,CO. When I wheeled offroad in hi altitude my CEL came on and it ran rich and sluggish + it pingged alot at any altitude, I had to run it on premium fuel.
I changed 3 sensors (Map,throttle position,& idle air valve)& cleaned throttle body..NO CHANGE still code p0107
I read on a forum somewhere about a similar problem and it said to go to dealer and have TSB #180800 flashed PCM (up date computer software)performed.
I had this done and it took care of my problem
Runs great, back on reg. gas no or very min. ping.
Best $150. that I have spent.

BigSahara Hook up a manual gauge. Stock ones are garbage. Also check the oil screen for the oil pump and pump itself. The channels int he block for the oil to reach the upper parts of the engine could also be clogged. A good temporary fix is Marvel Mystery Oil which acts as a detergent and could help with the issue for now.

rrich Cleghorn trail is at much higher altitude than Corona.
The MAP sensor also doubles as an altimeter - takes it's reading when you first turn the key on before you start it. That data stays in the ECM. It only updates when you shut it off and restart - each and every time.

If you had not shut off the engine since leaving Corona or the bottom of the hill, that could be the reason it threw the MAP code. It was still trying to adjust things for the lower altitude, then it realized something was amiss and tried to tell you.

Next time try shutting it off and restarting. I'll bet the code disappears - and it'll probably run a little better to boot.

I think Corona is about 500', where Cleghorn trail is more like 4000+ feet.

The oil pressure sending unit - get it from the dealer - parts houses sell a cheap Chinese knock-off - lots of trouble with them. Price is probably only 10% difference, if that, but the reliability is well worth it.

rtread I had my '98 TJ at the Jeep dealership last month with multiple problems. One of the problems was the indication (occasional) that I had 0 oil pressure at idle. I knew the common Jeep problem with the sending unit and told them this but I wanted my oil pressure gauge-checked at various RPMs, especially at idle, so that I can put this worry to rest once and for all. They did the gauge-check at several RPMs and everything checked out. They changed out the oil pressure sending unit with a new one. No worries. Just a couple of days ago I got the "check engine" light again and the oil pressure showed 0 (at idle). Somebody at Jeep needs a good ass kicking for all the worries they have created with this common problem is all I can say.

ChadCotton Just replaced the sender on my 1997 TJ 2.5... a big tip: pull the battery out when attempting this swap out. I spent an hour try to figure out what wrench to get in there to loosen it up. ended up a pair of vice grips worked best to break it free. I bought this (my first Jeep) from someone who had it garaged for 6 years and only ran it occasionally. The sender went out about 3 weeks ago (2 weeks after I bought it) and I read here it's common for them to go out. I was just living with it until the other day oil started coming out of the sender and dripping all over the exhaust. Auto Zone sold me a new sender for $30 with a lifetime warranty. If you need guidance let me know, I'm by NO means a mechanic but this was do-able.

Jerry Bransford Replace the oil pressure sender, the TJ's sender is well known for going bad and causing bad oil pressure readings.

jwinkler Oil sensors (even new ones) are always a problem on Jeeps. I'd suggest you hook up a manual gauge first and see what the oil pressure really is before doing anything else. If pressure is ok, I would try another sensor and sometimes even the gauges go bad and may need replacing
