Warthog Many manufacturers make armor that doubles as a step. Off-Road Fab just released a set for both 2d & 4d. DOM tubing and powdercoat finish. It's completely bolt on, DIY.
I don't think you can buy off their website and the only picture they had on ORfab.com of it was uninstalled... great marketing...
I found it below installed picture and price. V
OR-FAB Rocker Protectors
Their actually pretty sexy and there is a small column on them in the August "Four wheeler" issue.

jk'n BTW I agree with clear lake. They look functional as a step and strong enough to protect off road.

I need to get a my vertically challenged wife and kids a boost to get into my 2D 2010 Sport. I thought I wanted some side steps but after looking around on here I'm not so sure anymore. I saw a couple of posts suggesting that side armor might be the way to go. Now I'm thinking about some Rugged Ridge side armor guards: Rugged Ridge 11504.21 - Rugged Ridge RRC Side Armor Guards for 07-10 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door - Quadratec

I absolutely love the look of these things, but do they work well as steps too?

I appreciate any help, thanks.
Rockers with steps look way cooler than steps... But the step is as high as the side, so while it will help, it's not as user friendly as a step. That said, I would do rockers, just because they are functional as armor as well as helpful.

The pre drilled holes were misaligned and I had to do some grinding and bending to get them on. They were advertised as a "simple installation" and would have been if the holes lined up correctly. It took 3 1/2 hours to get them on in my MACHINE SHOP with the help of a machinist AND a fabricator. Your average guy in his garage on a Saturday.....better have an awesome set of tools....or FORGET it.
I bet the alignment issues you had are due to the fact that they are Smitty's.... Idk, just guessing...

jk'n My first jeep that Chrysler bought back had side steps. Pretty...but not functional for off road. The Rubicon has rock rails. I got my 5'2" wife a step stool that I keep in the back. The only time I use it now is when she is in a dress. The rest of the time she just climbs in.
