StinkyMud I should have posted a couple of weeks ago but I forgot. The new tire DID fit with the brake light however the pucks are REALLY snug on the tire. In fact my rear door does not close properly. I bought some stainless steel washers to put in between the mount and the rim to alleviate some of the stress on the tire from the pucks. I'll have it done later on today (8/2) and I'll post results. Thanks to everyone for you input and ideas!!!

IndyJeepMan I'd take it off. If you get pulled over make an excuse that working on it. I doubt you will get pulled over for it, but what do I know. I live in Indiana, where i dont even need fender flares.

Mines gone, looks much better, and if they hit me well its their fault and they must be blind if they cant see my 44 LED 4" LED's.

But to each his own. I just hate all the stuff thats plastic on the outside.

Hawaii 5-0 After giving my spare a second look, cutting down the rubber stops would only complicate things for me. My spare is already snug against the 3rd brake light riser. My only option is to get a new bumper/carrier from Tuff Design

convict27 I just added a 31x10.5x15 spare MT onto mine and it fits but just barely. I had to start one of the lugnuts and get it tightened down before I could even start the other ones. This tire is on my original steelies so I am not sure of the offset. Personally I cant stand the look of the third brake light but I understand the safety issue so I am leaving mine in place.

GoldTJ I saw a post long ago about placing an LED light in the hub hole of a spare tire-looks really cool, and totally eliminates the factory brake light!

Hawaii 5-0 My tires are 30x9.50 and I noticed the hockey pucks are pushing into the sidewall of my spare. I may have to cut down the pucks too, or just wait a year until I get my swing out carrier.

Now you have me thinking that maybe adding some washers behind the 3 lug nut holes for the lug nuts MIGHT eliminate the need to cut the pucks/bumpers. Not sure how much would left on the threads for the lug bolts.

Any thoughts on this anyone????

I think I'm just gonna remove the light and forget it. Just HATE giving the Police any other reason to stop me.
I cut the pucks in half so the bolts would go through the rim holes farther.

StinkyMud Picked up my spare, It worked and cleared the break light but just barely. HOWEVER I do have to cut the rubber bump stops down to about half the original size. Just fits to way to snug when I close the door.

Thanks for all of your help guys.!!!!

Jerry Bransford The Rubicon comes with a 31" spare tire and it uses the same 3rd brake light so it should fit fine. For me, I'd much rather have the 3rd brake light in place and fully operational. My new '04 Rubicon doesn't have one but I plan to weld a little spot on my spare tire carrier so I can mount one.

With all the inattentive drivers out there texting, talking on their cellphones, driving drunk, driving distracted, etc., I figure I need all the help I can get. I know I personally notice the 3rd brakelight lighting up before I notice the lower tail lights.

life iz good I don't it fits as easily as everyone is saying. I took out the 4 bolts that hold it onto the spare tire carrier and added a few stainless steel washers and raised it up a approx. 1/2 an inch. I think you'll also need to bring out the spare tire carrier away from the tail gate. Keep it on.

I guess I'll just have to use my Polish ingenuity and come up with an effective way to raise the stock light to come up just above the tire. I am actually going to get the spare mounted today so the trip home may be with the spare in the back and not on the mount.
The easiest way I've seen to raise it is to use some pvc pipe as spacers. Just cut however many lengths you need to stand it up where you want it....

Neil F. I have a 33x12.5 on the gate and the stock third light could still be seen over the tire without alteration. I have since (for astetics) removed it and put one in the center of the spare.

j33p3rz cr33p3rz Mine fits fine.Plenty of room.

Kauka Something I've been toying with is to get rid of the stock light and get a led one and cut a hold in the hard top above the back window and plug it in there.

AKantipodean Not only may it be required but it is an effective safety device. I'm pretty sure this is in the public domain, NHTSA report, so I think linking it is ok.
07-16-2010 06:02 AM
Kauka Yes the third brake like is require, if your jeep was manufactured with it. I can find it right know but I know there was a thread on here that talked about that before and it had a link to the law stating such.

chucky cheese 31x10.5 x5.5 offset, fits perfect. Didn't have to cut anything. Need the third to get tag here.

T-BONE N BIXBY I recently put mine back on because I finally figured out why my light wasn't working. So I had to hook it up to get satisfaction out of fixing it.
But that is starting to wear off so I may remove it again.
07-15-2010 02:33 PM
InfernoGirl Yeah, just take it off.... I did!
07-15-2010 02:20 PM
Brad[LK1] I say put it on and if it fits. woot! if not ehh, take that sucker off
07-15-2010 02:09 PM
adkjoe Do you even need the 3rd brake light? I think it's ugly anyway.
07-15-2010 12:06 PM
StinkyMud Cool, so I've got clearance Clarence.

Preciate it all!!!
07-15-2010 11:57 AM
drivebytruckerz It'll fit. Anything over a 32" and you'll have to remove it or extend it with some rubber spacers or something.
07-15-2010 11:53 AM
T-BONE N BIXBY I say it will fit.
07-15-2010 11:30 AM
