|wasurfer86||dont tie any knots in a tow or recovery strap as that can cut the working load in half. if you see any visible damage toss it. also if the strap doesnt have a working load labeled on it dont use it. i do a lot of rigging at work and have seen straps, mooring lines, and wire slings fail and you dont wanna be any where close when it happens.|

|Jerry Bransford||I'd be surprised if I found a true recovery/snatch strap at Walmart, most likely it would really be a no or very low stretch tow strap.|

|Wally Meyers||Thanks for the answers and explanations about straps. I was going out today to purchase one. I would have bought a tow strap, now I will purchase the correct one, a recovery strap.|

I'm picturing a giant bungie snaking thru the trees, over the river, etc. And about a zillion miles an hour.
Let's do it!

ok. thank you for the answers. that makes perfect sense. now i need to figure out which kinda strap i have... but that can wait till morning...

Think of a recovery strap as being similar to a very large bungee cord...except it's not gonna stretch nearly as much (though it'd be interesting to see someone recover a vehicle with a huge bungee cord)
|07-19-2010 09:40 PM|
Recovery Straps: Are used when pulling stuck vehicles out. They will stretch out to compensate for the force of yanking and then contract again pulling the vehicles out
Tow Straps: Will not stretch and are used to generally pull stuff as in if you got someone out with a recovery strap and had to tow them back to the parking lot
No questions are stupid questions
If you yank with recovery strap then you'll most likely pull the vehicle out.
If you yank with a tow strap then you'll most likely rip something off of a vehicle

|flatline||I had good luck with the pro-comp straps. no problems for 5 years. I tend to use it a lot as a tree saver, or to wrap it around big rocks when there's nothing else to winch to.|

Only reason why these companies sell them for more is because it has a name on it...smittybuilt, rugged ridge, arb, whatever....
