Ozarkharleyguy I bought a Sport, 2 door. I live in NW Arkansas. I wanted a Rubicon but dealer supplies were limited and the price was high. Jeeps are very much in demand here. I have some land and we get some snow. Neither are extreme. The Sport is great for what I need. And I always thought if there were things I needed for it later on the after-market world for Jeep is limitless. Compared to the other stuff I've had the Jeep did great in 2 wheel drive in the snow, and I was shocked at how well. Of course its your decision, but keep in mind later on are you gonna say "darn wish I'd got that Rubi?" But then again you can add to the Sport those things you want.

Officially, YJ and TJ were simply internal engineering codes; they were not abbreviations or initials. When it came time for the next-generation Wrangler that would become the 2007 model, Chrysler's engineering-series code said it should be the TK.

But there was a problem.

"There wasn't a 'J' in it," Kevin Metz, Wrangler brand manager said. The Jeep crew tossed around various alternatives, and came up with JK. "It actually was very arbitrary," Metz said. Beyond the letter J linking it to "Jeep," JK doesn't officially have a meaning, Metz said. "If nothing else," he said, "I guess I like to think it stands for 'Jeep King.'"

landmarkbuilder Just FYI, i know from pruchases that 2009 and 2010 2dr and 4dr JK's, if you get an automatic, then you have the 3.73 gearing. The tow package simply adds hitch, 4 pin harness and Trailer Sway Control turned ON in the PCM. Unless you get a RUBI, then 4.10 all the way around, regardless of tow package

Keep in mind you are very limited in how wide a tire you can put on a stock wheel.... This might make it a bit easier to give up those Moabs... If not, you can pick up used ones for much less $ than you'll pay the dealer if they are on the Jeep...

Yes, the X/Sport will more than be enough Jeep to do the Off-Roading you're talking about. Do you intend on doing any Rock-Krawling or Stump-Humping with it? No? Then you don't need the Rubicon and the additional expense.

The X/Sport will have Dana 44's on the Rear, and Dana 30's on the Front. The Sahara has the same Drive System as the X/Sport, however, you're buying Farkle Stuff like Painted Fenders, Chrome Bumper Appliques in the middle of the Bumper, etc.

I have an '09 X, and I got the 24S Package, which has the Power Convenience Group, 17" Wheels, Auto Tranny, and the 3.73 Gears. More than enough BEAST to handle the Trails and do some light-medium Rock-Krawling.

I refer to X/Sport for the Base Model Wrangler, because the '07's-'09's were X Models, and 2010's changed the name to Sport. Same Jeep! I like Sport, better.

thanks blackbeard just what im looking for. i mean i like the rims and tires from the rubi or the mountain but i guess i can just get them aftermarket style you know, cant wait.

Nogear I have a JK Unlimited Rubicon and love it. This is the third Jeep I've owned. If you aren't going to Stump hump then you don't need a Rubicon. The other JKs are still the most capable Jeeps ever made (hey, not just my opinion! JPmagazine).
Anyway, don't spend the extra money. Save the money for all the goodies you will want (and you will want them....oh, yes you will!!! )

Build sheet, or look on the rear axle, at about the 10 o'clock position there is a metal tag with a bunch of #'s embossed in it. The last 3 are the gears.

DO NOT sand blast them, you'll eat right through them. You want to do a media blast that uses small particles of plastic. The blast media isn't any harder than the fenders, so you'll remove the paint and only the paint.

If you look at the window sticker (assuming they have it) it will be listed there.
If not the vin decoders may be able to tell (not sure how detailed they are).

From what I've experienced I could probably take most of the paint off with a pressure washer

InfernoGirl They are the same flares, just color matched. Don't know how the plastic will hold up to blasting tho', might be fine, Idk.... Someone will go flat flares and sell theirs, keep an eye out, if you'd rather just replace them.

OP, a Sport, or X or what ever they call them this week should do fine for you.

GroundHawg I bought an 07 X and that year some have 4.10 gears. I love it. I got it cheap, but it's a 2 door.

you'll be ok with a Sport. Rubicons you'd just be buying things you won't need.

IMO...you sound like a Sahara person bit pricey, but they get lots of bells and whistles.

cremaley Recently purchased a 2010 Wrangler Sport for $19,810 It's a 6 speed manual and I added 33x12.5 tires with no lift. Comes with 3.21 gears unless you build your own and add the factory tow packge. That comes with the 3.73 gears. Word of advise if you go with larger tires on the 3.21 gears you will lose power in 6th gear if its a manual. Not sure what is does to the automatic. I would definately try to get one with at least 3.73 gears if you are doing a lift plus larger tires. Of course, 4.10 would even be better.

How about a 2010 Brand new unlimited..... they are about $24k
You have a lot of options but the 2010's are really not overly expensive.... $400 a month with a 72 mo term

looking into my first JK and was wondering

I never been offroading before and I seem to have fun in the snow here in jersey. I currently drive an 00' XJ and Since I am a family man now, i would love to get me a newer truck. Not new, used. I love the JK. I never liked jeeps until I was forced to drive the XJ and one snow storm and i loved it. Now I want a 4 door XJ. But I was looking and the rubicon 4 door JK is alot of money. I love the way the mountain edition looks. with the dark grill and wheels and tires. But I know it gets alittle deep into detail. I was wondering, I dont plan on going wheeling, or offroading to any extreme, if anything some snow and some fun in dirt trails which would be like 3 times a year if that. So I was wondering if the sport edition would be enough. I heard about axle 3.7 and 3.2 blah blah blah. is it better to go for the gear ratio 3.7? I do plan on getting rid of those goodyear wrangler sr-a's and getting me some wrangler silent armors or the rubicon wheel and tires. I do on plan on getting bigger tires and maybe a small lift just for looks. Like i said family guy here and just wondering what my options are. I do want the power doors, windows, etc. no need for navigation tho as i have my garmin. what do you guys think? does a 2007 or 2008 have the options i am looking for? what should i be looking for? dana 44 on front and rear? or just rear? newbie here. thanks!
