Jerry Bransford The primary fuel filter is located inside the sealed fuel pressure regulator container that sits on top of the fuel pump. It has such a huge surface area that I doubt it is clogged enough to be causing the 19 psi fuel pressure. My first guess would be the fuel pump is bad.

I'll have to check out Rockauto again if they are selling the complete fuel pump/fuel pressure assembly for only $120 because I paid $90 for just the fuel pressure regulator alone from them last month. It looks like I may need the fuel pump so if I get a $90 fuel pressure regulator for only $30 more, that's a bargain.

Edit: Rock Auto's cheapest price for the fuel pump/regulator assembly is $167.79.

DevilDogDoc Well if you are only getting 20 psi and the normal running pressure is 49 psi, you probably need the pump replaced. AFAIK the regulator is part of the pump asembly. I found a few options at rockauto.com, a complete assembly was 120 or so....

Engine stalls and dies, have low fuel pressure, need help!!!

I have a 99 Jeep Wranger Sahara, 4.0L I-6, engine starts and idles fine, and on occassion will not start at all. Engine will loose power and sputter under accelleraton. Fuel pressure was at 19 lbs, pulled fuel pump and found extremely dirty filters, changed all filters and cleaned fuel pump, then tested pressure still only 20 lbs. I don't know whether to change fuel pump, pressure regulator or maybe even a sensor...these parts are expensive and I don't want to just start hanging parts....all help would be appreciated!
