usually during really hot summers (like this one) when the ocean doesn't get too rough, so they can grow. i think it was august when i saw this. the crests of the waves glow green and when you walk in the wet sand, you get flashes of light around your feet from the same algae. it's probably the coolest thing i have ever seen. something like this, but on the sand:

I love Assateague, been camping there a couple times. Have you ever been there for the glowing waves and light up sand?

|daggo66||Thanks, and welcome to the forum. My wife and I think we've found the perfect beach spot! The beginning area is mostly fishermen. The beach in that area kind of drops off. Further down near the VA line, the beach is flatter and far less people. The VA side is fenced off until 8/31 because of nesting birds.|

They were running all over the place. The one in that picture was working it's butt off digging that whole. When I first sat down I noticed some movement on the sand but thought it was just something blowing in the wind. Then I noticed those little buggers scurrying around.
We can't wait to go back next Saturday!

My wife and I took the Jeep to Assateague this past Saturday. We had a great time driving on the beach. We plan on going back this weekend. Here are a couple of pictures. Since she loves her film camera, I'll have more next week when we finish the roll. I had no issues driving on the sand. It was quite soft and deep in places. Most vehicles were driving in each others tracks, but I was able to go through anything.
