Couldn't resist to show off my sweet 04 LJ
LJ are pricey around here (Chicagoland) I paid 17,800k which was priced at retail according to NADA for a stock LJ with 40k miles a few months ago. Couldn't get the dealer to budge on price because of the rarity, new lift, springs, Crager rims, and M/T tires. I figuring around 2k to 2.5k in mid grade goodies like Old Man Nitro and Skyjackers front control arms and whatever else went into the lift including rims and tires.
My coworker paid 18k for his stock HT LJ 05 Rubi which he would trade in a heart beat for mines if he could becuz it already has rims and lift, even though his Rubi has lockers.
Plus the extra cargo to carry a duffle bag, cooler,groceries or whatever you need is a bonus. Also the extra leg room make a diiference for my kid to travel along with me without being cramp. I even find it somewhat comfortable for my 6'1'' 170# frame. LJ rocks

|Tycampbell||I recently just bought an LJ, and I love it. Wouldnt drive anything else. Personally, i prefer the look of the LJ with the slanted back roll bar.|

|SurfKaster||I'd love to have one. Although stretched I think they're damn sweet. Even if you find them cheap now I fully believe they'll have long term $ value over comparable TJs. With them being in production only a few years they could very well fetch scrambler CJ8 prices of today years from now.|

I like mine much better now that I have 33s and a small lift. I think it's perfectly proportioned. My opinion.

I think they look weird with the soft top on... something about the back windows being sooooo loooooooooong. But I also think they look better than a TJ with a hard top or no top. Just this TJ owner's perspective.
(And I would also kill for some more space)

I can't say I've ever seen the LJ considered "unpopular" - there seem to be quite a lot of them in my area. On base alone, there are at least four that I see regularly, not including my own. And I have never seen any "for sale cheap" around here - not in the classifieds, not on Craig's List. Maybe it's a local thing?
Personally, I would rather have the LJ than the TJ. It's only another 10" and I don't think it makes it look "stretched". It looks more balanced to me than the TJ and you can't argue with the Dana 44 and that nice big engine, either.

The Unlimited's extra wheelbase gives three benefits... more cargo space, a smoother ride on the highway, and they do better with extremely steep climbs and descents. However, they need taller tires and/or suspension lift heights to provide the same clearance on the trail the SWB TJ has due to the significantly worsened breakover angle caused by its longer wheelbase. The tougher the trail, the more trouble an Unlimited will have on it. So if it's a pure trail machine, the TJ's shorter wheelbase means it will get hung up or get high centered less.
So it really depends on what your needs are. For my needs, an LJ just wouldn't work.

This is my first Wrangler. It sit on the lot for over a month before I bought it. 05, 27000 miles fully loaded, both tops . I gave $8000 less than what it books for if I'm figuring it right. Only thing I have done is put a 2 inch spacer lift under it. I need to figure out which tires I'm going to put on it and order them. I also need front and rear bumpers. I do love it!!
