Ibuildembig Only one better than Bigfoot would be Jeremy at Custom Diffs in Bloomsdale...he does all ours and was the TTC winner last year

Gate53 Cruise down 55 or 57 to 70W take 270 across the bridge into MO get off 14 miles ahead at the Lindbergh exit and talk to Bigfoot 4x4 even they won't charge $3000 for a regear. Those guys know off road. It's the only thing I miss about living in IL.

Really? I have 3.07 on my 04 with 31's an it's a dog! If there is any type of incline I have to down shift to 4th. Could be cause I'm at 7,000ft though.

$3000! You are right, that is WAY out of line, more typically that should run $1000 to as high as $1300. I've had my TJ regeared twice and the last one was just under $1100 including all parts, labor, and sales tax. A 4x4 shop will be more reasonable since they do regear jobs all the time. A transmission shop is not the right place to have axles regeared, most are barely good places to have a transmission repaired without being ripped off.

InfernoGirl ^^^^ Exactly.. 4:10's are too low for 31's. But parts and labor for a regear should run anywhere from $1k to $1500, depending on location, etc....

JDsDream Your Jeep keeps very nice company. I wouldn't bother with regearing unless you intend to lift and go a little larger with the tires. The 31's aren't making a big enough difference to justify the cost of having it regeared.

chrisb0108 So THATS why you're not happy with the power you have coming from your I6 with 31's, its the other toys you're comparing it too!! And to think I'm happy (content) with my 2.5l, 3.07s? and 33s...

I was thinking your 4.0 Sport has 3.73 or 4.11 gearing

New Owner: quick question w/ pics

I just picked up a 99 5 speed w/ 62,000 miles last week. I am very happy!

I have learned a whole lot so far on this forum and have done more than my fair share of forum "searches". The only thing I am not thrilled about so far is the gearing (3.07 w/ 31" tires). Obviosuly I would be much better off with a 4.10. I went to a local trans shop here in town and they quoted approx $3000. Seems very high to me!

I live about 2 hrs south of Chicago and there are a limited number of shops around. What should I expect to pay for this? Thanks in advance for the help!
