Ok looks like Im gonna go with the spool in the rear then. Im building the TJ for trail use only, so Im not worried about it being locked full time.
Ill do a little more research on the difference between mini spool and regular spool.
Im trying to build this rig as budget as possible but also do a nice job on it as well.
My biggest concerns right now are finding a cheap transmission replacement, locking a differential, and possibly doing the hack-n-tap sye.

After finally getting my new-to-me Rubicon's lockers working two weeks ago, I took the Jeep out for a test drive and tried locking the rear and then the front locker on the street. Locking the rear was bad enough and made a u-turn difficult (nearly impossible really) since air lockers don't disengage immediately after shutting them off. Locking the front locker locker made the locked up rear seem like nothing. I couldn't get out of a turn and had to drive up over a curb and nearly over someone's lawn to get straightened out enough to get the front locker disengaged.

I have a d44 in the rear. Ill go with the rear then.
Any real bad drawbacks to welding the spider gears?

If you have a rear axle that is strong enough for a locker, it's my strongest possible opinion that there is far more benefit to locking the rear first. I barely even use my front locker at all due to how well my rear locker works.
But if your rear axle is the Dana 35c which in stock form is too weak for a locker, it's safest to lock the front axle first. Or install a Super 35 kit into the Dana 35c, if that's what you have, which includes your choice of several lockers.

Lock the front or rear.
What would you do? RCrocs crawling event regulations say to qualify for "class 2" you need 1 axle locked. Would I benefit from the front or rear more.
The rear already has the limited slip, so I'm thinking locking the front might be the best.
I may just go the budget way and weld the spider gears.
