aGERBIL I had an 02 tj. Loved it. I have three u2 sensors that I can find. Three cats too. It's insane. Would one of those performance chips work the kinks out? A guy with an 04 jeep rubicon did that with his. I'm not sure if he too the o2 sensor out, but he dd the cat converter.

Tell me about it, my '04 TJ has more cats and 02 sensors than I know what to do with. And one of the 02 sensors is apparently bad (causing a CEL) but it's so far down on my priority list that I haven't had a chance to determine which one it is and if it's really bad or just bad wiring.

Jerry Bransford As opposed to earlier TJs where there was just one, there are now four catalytic converters on newer TJs and removing any of them will just cause the computer to get upset and generate a Check Engine Light.

AzTJ Third cat? There should only be one... As far as the 02 sensor goes, it's needed for the PCM to control air-fuel ratio. I wouldn't mess with it IMO.

aGERBIL Thanks. Some of my mechanic buddies said the same thing. It was a suppose to be a 3-4 hour job, but it took us about 12 hours and it was dark and raining so we might have sped things up a bit. I'll take a look at it. Thanks for the quick response. This place looks to be more usefull than stupid schucks!!

With that, I was told by a fellow Jeeper up here in AK about the 04-06 unlimiteds, that you can cut that third cat and take the o2 sensor out and put a straight pipe from there to the flange that ends under the transfer case cover. How easy is that? Is is something like a beginner like me should do. I love learning as I work on things, but also to be prepared. I'm new to this so I may label certain parts wrong, my bad, I'll learn.

AzTJ ^x2 I did that 2 weeks ago on my mother's XJ. I noticed it before we fired it back up though. There was a large gap on intake #5. So I loosened it back up and wiggled it and it fell into place on those alignment studs on the head.

Jerry Bransford Your intake manifold was not reinstalled into the correct position. There are a pair of small positioning points on the head that the intake manifold has to be positioned over. If it's not, a large vacuum leak will be present and your engine rpms will be sky-high.

Loosen your intake manifold, reposition it correctly and tighten it down per the FSM tightening order and torque values and your problem will be cured.

JBA Header

I just recently installed a header for my jeep. It's a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited. I have just put everything together. All plugs, as far as I had them labeled, are put in the same spot, vaccum hoses and all. I've tighted everything down to the letter. I went to start it up, and the throttle just opens wide open. I don't know why it would do that. I'm use to the old carburetors, so I'm unfamiliar with the electronic stuff. Is there a possibility that I didn't seat the intake manifold on correctly? What's the best way to reach those bolts with out dropping the exahust system? Any help or where to trouble shoot?
