Gas gauge doesnt work

So I've been reading on here and it seems to me like the gas gauge is faulty in most jeeps. I have a 97 tj and I filled it up this morning and drove twenty miles on the tank. Now the gauge says it is at 3/4 tank and I was wondering if this is typical of a jeep to be this off or if not what can I do to fix it. Short of dropping the tank hopefully.
