Coop I too am in the market and noticed prices are all over the map. I've seen some basically stock 87 & 89's for as high as $3500 and then some 91-95 everywhere from $1795-$5000.

Good luck with your search and keep us posted with how you make out! Make sure you check underneath, not sure if rust is a problem where you live, but 2 older ones I looked at around here both had rusted frames in the back (holes), and rusted out floors and mounts.

For example, he tried to tell me that the D44 only came in the Rubicon (its was an option in all 4.0's) also he said adding beefier shafts would make it strong (not true, just puts stress on the gears) That kinda stuff. Just BSing me. I did not look at it.

pakman55 I was also interested in the first one. Found a better deal closer by.

Has a D35 wich means, unless he changed the gearing, its 3.07 or 3.55. If it matters, he didn't know a lot about jeeps in general. Tried to tell me stuff that I knew was wrong. Major turnoff for me.

mcount2010 ok still looking..... found
97 wrangler
*** 1997 JEEP WRANGLER 4.0 ( 6 ) cyl, 5 speed, 4X4 sport ***

tell me what you think
08-23-2010 01:25 PM
mcount2010 well the salvage title has alot to do woth that right?
08-23-2010 01:02 PM
Gate53 It's a Jeep no power to miss lol My 4 banger won't beat it's own shadow up a hill but a lot of that is the 32x11.50x15's on it. It is great offroad. On the highway you'll have to shift on uphills. I gave $6500 for it a few months ago. If those 2 are within $1000 there;s something wrong somewhere. Either ones way to high or the other is too low.
08-23-2010 12:55 PM
mcount2010 so the search continues and i found 2 more to debate with, a 02 with 89000 miles 6cyl 5 speed BUT it has a salvage title due to theft( is that safe to buy?) and another 2000 wrangler 4cyl with 100000 miles 5 speed. the price difference is within a 1000$.

ok and 1 more question im not going to be doing off roading at least i dont think i will, so am i going to miss the power of a 6cyl if i dont get one?
08-17-2010 12:03 PM
mcount2010 ok so that jeep was a no go, it needed way to much work for me. so back to square 1, what year did they start putting the straight 6s in the wrangler?
08-14-2010 12:13 AM
mcount2010 ok yeah i looked and there was no rust! tomorrow im going to have my mechanic take a look at it.
08-13-2010 03:55 PM
Gate53 The '97 looks like a nice clean Jeep. Did you check everywhere for rust? The $4700 isn't out of line I'd start at $3500 and work with the guy if it's in good shape. Can't see the tires. You should be able to come together somewhere between.
08-13-2010 03:34 PM
lwszabo so where are you at with finding a jeep/
08-13-2010 12:41 PM

08-13-2010 12:20 PM

08-13-2010 12:18 PM
mcount2010 yeah eventually i will lift it just not right after i buy.
08-13-2010 12:06 PM
pakman55 that thing is riding awfully low....if you plan to lift it N.B.D. but if you want to keep it stock height....Well that ain't stock
08-13-2010 12:04 PM

08-13-2010 10:39 AM

mcount2010 ok so i drive it and looked at it. REALLY LIKE IT. but he is asking 4600$ and there is a crack in the headlight, one running board is cracked and im going to need new tires. and possibly a muffler, what do you guys this is a good price to start with?
08-12-2010 03:33 PM
mcount2010 and yea Ibuildembig your right i drove that 93 with 35s and it felt like i needed a push to get started. i had learned how to drive on a 5 spped civic and a 6 speed wrangler and now frive a 6 speed civic si but i got into that car like i have never driven before. now as for toady he is asking 4600 for this 95 with 140k what should i them hill ill take it for?
08-12-2010 03:23 PM
mcount2010 yeah im on my way now to look at the 95! it is all stock that i know of ill take pictures and see what you guys think
08-12-2010 02:36 PM
Ibuildembig I say buy it, yank the motor and sell it (will bring 500-900), and drop in a V8

But seriously, if you dont wanna do that, 4Jeepn is right...4 pooper with anything larger than a 30x9.50 is a turd and its gonna be an uphill battle
