Cooling sensor 2007 jk

2007 x lost power / batt terminals loose sence then now my temp gauge goes all the way over / to just above hot / ok now when engine is cold the gauge still stays at 12 oclock// then when engine heats up it goes over to hot but it is not hot .. So what is going on is the gauge never goes to c far left . Starts out at stright then goes over to hot as where it would b at regugler postion. At atart up / gauge stays at 12 . When key is off ? Power loose damage sending unit ??????? Thanks for any info /
