|p1zzaman||Cool thanks for the input. I'll look into the dynamax as well. Also, I'm going to get my cats replaced with new factory ones (still under warrenty) due the the current ones sound like a rattle can at low rpms. should I wait to install the new muffler until I get that done, or does it matter? Just dont want the dealer to say something like, "you put on aftermarket parts, therefore its not covered". Also the local muffler shop quoted me $100 to install the new muffler and re pipe it, is that a typical cost? from my searches here it seems to range from like 80 to up to 500 so not really sure.|

I am pretty sure you need 2.5", I think they changed from 2.25 to 2.5 in 2000.
As for the ebay muffler, looks to be a real Flowmaster. So if its what you want and has the right inlet\outlet offset it looks like a decent price. That's about what I paid at a local parts store for the last flowmaster muffler I bought.
Another option with a similar sound is the Dynamax ultra flow, I have one on my Silverado and everyone thinks its a Flowmaster. Its nice and loud with a good tone, sounds a lot like a flowmaster. If you are looking for loud I would recommend it, haven't heard it on a 4.0 but the 4.8 v8 in my truck sounds great and gets a lot of complements.

Flowmaster 40 question
I'm in the market for a new flowmaster 40 for my 04 X 4.0... I have searched the flowmaster website, and found that the muffler with shipping is 95.97, just under a 100 dollars. I then searched ebay, and found one for 59.95 plus 12 for shipping. so I would be saving almost 30 dollars. My question is, should I even consider buying a muffler off ebay? or just fork up the extra 30 and get it directly from flowmaster? also should I get the 2.5 or the 2.25? Here is the link to the ebay page let me know what you all think.
