jk'n ^^ Ya, most days things go well...sometimes...I must be in tilt mode...no mind altering substances, just tilt mode and it happens, even more than once in a short period. Sometimes when it happens the carbon gets blown out of the engine depending on where I am. It's probably good for the engine to get the carbon out occasionally...not too close to red line but the revs definitely get up there.

Seriously though, sometimes I feel like the jeep is clunky. It is usually coming off of the stop when my feet aren't quite coordinated and I get off of the line like a bucking bronco or the jeep gets into this engine funk thing someplace in-between stall and running and I wish the thing had more power but it is just me being uncoordinated. It can sometimes be downright embarrassing especially in front of my daughter's boy friend.

Oh man I thought it was just me!!! I have been driving Manual trans. almost exclusively for 15+ years, and still have that problem..

whew.... ego saved

pdubois64 All I can add to this is I have a Charger R/T that has a stock 350HP Hemi V8. I added a CAI, Magnaflow exhaust, and Diablo tuner. I didn't get a huge gain in HP....maybe 20-30 at the wheels.

So on a 205HP V6 mini van engine...I won't be wasting my money. It is what it is...a V6.

An SRT8 Wrangler would be awesome.

jk'n I'm waiting until my muffler is crushed or falls off and wouldn't change the intake as there is just no power gain there that is sizable just snake oil for sale and lots of after market dealers too willing to sell it at over inflated prices. Also, changing the intake opens up all kinds of warranty wiggle by Chrysler, especially if you should hydro lock it on the road (not off road) however unlikely that may be. They could claim that changes to the intake caused the problem.
08-19-2010 11:41 PM
KBR97 Cameron exhaust is just going to make it sound more mean...intake is going free up some airflow that the engine really doesnt need.
You said you have 1300 to spend, take 300 and buy the superchips flashpak. There is a reason why all JK owners are buying them. Its the easiest mod to do, just plug it in.

cameron ok thanks
im going to get a superchip
but what about intake and exhaust
08-19-2010 11:15 PM
BKK The superchip will give you additional performance, and once you do decide to add a lift/tires, etc. the same tuner allows you to reprogram for the tire and or gear change.
08-19-2010 11:14 PM
daggo66 Make sure you add a TBS while you're at it.
08-19-2010 11:11 PM
cameron id rather just do some performance for now
maybe in a couple months il lift it but for now i want some more power
08-19-2010 10:53 PM
BKK I just put a mild 2" lift with mild tire upgrade 285-75 (33's) on the stock rims (Automatic w/3.73 gears). I agree, the gear swap will be the best source of torque/power; however, I found the SuperChip brought my (seat of the pants) power back to about how it was stock - maybe a bit better with the 93 octane performance map - actually a pretty good passing gear. 70mph to 80mph pulls real strong. Gas mileage has dropped 2-3mpg with the lift and tire upgrade. $340 vs approx $1,100

jk'n Six inches and 35s or 36s is a lot of tire and lift requiring a lot of mods. Most folks usually go with 2 to 3 inches of lift and 33s. With that 4.88 gearing or 5.?. That has been discussed a lot too. Somewhere on this forum (jk) there is a chart that shows tire size vs gearing for various purposes. Good chart I think USAntigoon first posted it and has been repeated a lot since.

cameron jeep just sounds better
08-19-2010 10:34 PM
jk'n hehe, my first 500 posts I kept reverting. I have gotten pretty used to calling it a jeep (preferred) or truck.
08-19-2010 10:29 PM
cameron oh yes it would add some power
and oh i though i put truck my bad.
08-19-2010 10:27 PM
jk'n Followed your link...now, that would add some power!

BTW, daggo was wise cracking because you were calling your jeep a car...it's a truck. Jeepers get offended when you call it a car.

But then I think about the big picture of jeep and their product line. They have to meet certain emissions standards and that has put a crimp on how big an engine they can put in the jeep. The engineers have sharpened their pencil and have come up with this 3.8 engine. There is just so much power in her and by-skotty, that is all she can deliver. Superchipping it may help a little but I don't think it will add so much torque the she will be forgiving of my uncoordinatedness. Now a V-8 would probably make her behave like she does in 4low, that is, she seems to like it no matter how uncoordinated I may be on the clutch.

cameron i have a bmw m3 for that smart guy
this is my 3rd car that im trying to get ready for going to the mountains next week
08-19-2010 10:10 PM
daggo66 It's not a car. Sell it and buy a Civic with a loud muffler.

i agree it basicly doubles your power when you put it in 4 low

I can only come up with one question to people who feel the way you do. Why did you buy it?
