What's a driveshaft ring? I only ask because I discovered this morning that I still have vibes only at a higher speed that I hadn't hit before now.

1BLKJP Believe me when I tell you that NO ONE wants to experience what happens when your driveshaft let's loose. I cracked both my tranny case and TCase and then another 150 bucks to rebuild my driveshaft. So are vibes technically fatal? No But on a stock TCase it would probably bend or break the output shaft, could potentially damage the pinion seal, and IMO just generally bug the hell out of you.

jeeperman Well, I have head of guys going through u-joints about every 5,000 miles with driveline vibes. They only had to swap u-joints a couple of times before the SYE kit went in (fast learners ). That's the best reason that I can think of, other than if the u-joints go on the highway and you don't have a driveshaft ring (he doesn't), it could do a number on the underside of your rig and the exhaust system when it lets go. (Don't ask why I know this:o )

Long Term Effects of Driveline Vibration

I met a guy last night that had a 4" lift done on his TJ Sport. He said that he had some problems and described what sounds like a typical driveline vibration at about 50 mph. (the Jeep has a dropped TX case, but no SYE/CV) He said that the guy who put on the lift told him not to worry about it. I told him that he needed to get it fixed and he asked "Why?”

I didn't have a good answer for him. Other than the fact that the vibration would drive me nuts (he said that it didn't bother him), all I could think of was that it might cause premature failure of u-joints and maybe excessive wear of the ring and pinion gears, but I wasn't really sure.

So now I’m here to ask the experts. What are the long and short term effects of driving with a driveline vibration?
