tiny terror Aw man guys, am I stocker you're worried about? I don't wanna hold anyone back.
04-20-2007 06:32 PM
Unlimited I agree completly about doing Holcomb first. I was going to suggest it tomorrow morning. The last time I was on Holcomb, we hit the trailhead at Midnight, ran it east to west, and finished just after 3:30 am. It's a very different trail after dark!
04-20-2007 06:27 PM
RedRubiTJ I don't know, I've never been on Holcomb this close to after a storm. I'm not paticularly worried about it though, we can let one of the big dawgs go through first and see how it looks. If it's too bad we can always turn around and pick another trail. Rawk my be right in preferring to run Holcomb Creek first though as it may surprise us and I'd rather not get stuck on it with almost stock vehicles after dark if its particularly nasty.
04-20-2007 06:12 PM
Unlimited Hey Redrubi and Rawk, ya think we'll have any problems with crossing Holcomb creek?
04-20-2007 04:39 PM

Out of many trips up in the snow, I've been checked only once in the WJ.

RedRubiTJ I've been listening to the radio and I haven't heard any mention of it. Usually as long as you have a 4WD they are much more lax about it. Sometimes they check and just want to make sure you have some with you but they don't even bother checking the size. Give me a call in the morning and I can let you know for certain.
04-20-2007 04:14 PM
Rawkon Ive never needed chains in the jeep goin up.

but as of right now they have only recieved rain up there.

Bensweather.com has live pics
04-20-2007 04:07 PM
tiny terror Is there a possibility of needing chains? Cuz... I don't have any.
04-20-2007 03:02 PM
RedRubiTJ Necessity: recovery points, warm clothes, extra clothes, food, water, blankets, trash bags, tools.

If you've got it: recovery gear, spare parts, fluids, first aid, fire extinguisher.

Don't currently know chain requirements.

I went out to check the "bath tub brews" as tiny so eloquently put it. They are not ready yet . I'll pick up some micros from BevMo while I am out and about today.

It's raining cats and dogs over here. Had to put the hard top on - first time since I bought the Jeep, I'm very sad .

So far just not my day, but it will be all better soon.

04-20-2007 10:56 AM
tiny terror I hate snow. Bleck.
04-19-2007 11:13 PM
Rawkon The weather only makes things better in my opinion. im just sayin come prepared.
04-19-2007 11:00 PM
RedRubiTJ Jeep is done, for now. Flares are on. Brake lines done. I got my gears done yesterday, which kind of sucks because I am supposed to stay off the freeway for 500 miles. Driving from Chino Hills to Redlands on surface streets tomorrow afternoon then up the hill. If anybody needs it, PM me for my cell phone or cabin phone number/address.

Who cares about the weather? I'm going wheeling this weekend! Woohoo! Running up the hill in rain and snow with a safari top sounds fun, but I will make a concession and run full doors. Nice thing is that at least we won't be eating dust the whole day Saturday.

Long day today. Time for a beer and some TV.

Rawkon Bens Weather Forecast Updated Thu, Apr 19 @ 10:15
A fairly strong late season low pressure system will move through the area on Friday with colder temperatures, gusty winds and more precipitation. Snow levels could drop as low as 5,000 feet where several inches of new snow is quite possible. Clearing Saturday before a weaker storm moves through on Sunday threatening us with a little more rain & snow. Fair, dry & warmer weather next week.

PLEASE COME PREPARED, extra clothes, water, etc..etc.. weather looks rough this weekend. anyone need a rear tow point for there jeep??? i have a stock rear hook available.
i would also plan on adding another 30minutes minimun to your drive.

I know what chores are. My wife will be busy doing them while I am out wheeling!!

*looking around cautiously to make sure she isn't gonna read this over my shoulder*

WF-SoCal: Big Bear Run - April 21st: Check-In

We will be meeting @ 9:30am at the Fire station in Fawnskin and plan on hitting the trail by 10:00.

Current plan is to: 1) Drive up to the fire look-out on Butler Peak, then: 2) Run Holcomb Creek / Lower Larga Flats trails.

RedRubi has graciously offered to host an after-run dinner/beverage get together at his place in Big Bear.

I just spoke to a Ranger up there and he says that the roads are all open. They are expecting a light dusting of snow on Friday night and a high temp of 50 on Saturday.

So, who's in for the run and who's in for dinner?

I'm in for the run and 2 for dinner (thanks RedRubi)
