|DontTellMeAboutCajun||If you want the number to the place, PM me and you can call 'em. They ship for free inside Texas, if you're close enough you might drive and meet them at a state line.|

Thanks for the link Jerry
Btw that sounds like a good price to me too. I paid $850 for my rebuild last year. Then I ruined a few months later
Now the big decision...start rebuilding this one or keep searching for the auto.

|Jerry Bransford||$650 sounds like a reasonable price for a rebuilt AX-15 transmission to me. Be careful what you fill it with, one good lube is Redline MT-90 which is a full synthetic. Avoid filling it with a GL-5 75W-90 which is an outdated incorrect spec gear lube for the AX-15.|

|DontTellMeAboutCajun||Do not want to hi-jack this thread, but have an AX15-related question to ask. I'm in the market for one, and today I came across a transmission shop in Texas who sells rebuilt AX15's for $650+tax, core included. They warranty them for 1 year/unlimited miles. I believe I've found a great deal, but thought I'd ask for an opinion or two. Thanks|

Here's a good writeup I found that has a free downloadable file on how to rebuild the AX-15. Jeep AX 15 Manual Transmission Service and Repair Guide | Free eBook Download
Click on that and you'll find a "Download Now" link about 1/3 of the way down the page.

|pokey||True. That manual will definitely help. You can get a CD version for less money but I would recommend the printed. Right there on the bench while you're working on it rather than staring at a computer screen.|

Cool. I'll look into the service manual. I've never even opened up a transmission but I rather try myself instead of paying hundreds of dollars to have someone do it.
You can only learn one way...

The factory service manual for my '99 has a pretty extensive section on the AX15. The exploded view of the tranny in there looks pretty scary
I got the manual off ebay, the printed version for about 30 bucks delivered. There are a lot of them on ebay since a lot of the Chrysler dealers closed. Good luck.

Help rebuilding the AX15
So does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or anything on the rebuild/teardown of this transmission. Anything would help...suggestions on guide books, online write ups, tools, sources for parts, anything to look out for...whatever.
I'm thinking its just the synchros. The gears should be fine. Its actually a fresh rebuild that got water damaged a few months after being installed. Maybe the water caused the synchros to go bad.
