We all know Jeeps are better The Rubicon comes ready with Dana 44's and good lockers. Much cheaper investment. That way I can still use my truck for mild offroading and still tow and keep it for construction work (commuting etc). I'd lose my ABS if I SAS my truck.
You can fit larger tires on Wranglers without having to lift them as high which makes your COG much better than the competition. I would die if I had to cut my beautiful fenders on my truck haha.
The only reason I considered the swap was that the Toyota engine has more mods which would increase HP and Torque drastically. If you guys say it won't be sluggish after I regear I shouldn't worry then. You guys would know what you are talking about since you have done it.

The 5VZFE is a good, solid motor with similar specs to the Jeep 4.0L
190hp & 220ftlbs
190Hp & 235ftlbs
Im pretty sure the yota motor wieghs a bit less(aluminum block or heads at least) while the 4.0L is all cast iron. But even if you do the swap, you'll still "bog down" with larger tires and accesories on the rig. The only real solution is to regear the axles... which you'd have to do with either motor.
With my fleet of 4.0L motors, I have yet to have a major malfunction on any of them(all with over 100k - except my TJ)... I pretty much neglect the one in my '92 XJ and it runs like a champ and eats motor mounts about once a year. Like a mule, the 4.0L will push through as hard as you want it to.
But if you really want to spend the time and money on that swap be my guest... but why not just do a SFA conversion on yout current Tacoma? There are a number of kits that are reasonably priced for a D60 front end and coilover shocks. That would be a great setup!

|Dare2BSquare||I say go for it. Just make sure to take step by step pictures and post a log of all the other things you have to do to incorporate that engine into your jeep. Heck, that ought to keep us all entertained for months!!!|

Your Jeep won't even notice the difference, it will operate as if it is just the normal 4.0
4.0's are very reliable, durable engines that are very easy to find parts for and it won't break the bank.
But, if you want to do it just because you like that specific engine, then go for it. It's your Jeep. Do what you want to it. BUT, you will need to modify the engine, tranny, transfer case, engine mounts, and then all of the other stuff that you'll find out won't work once you get started with the build. Personally, I would just re-gear first and see if that solves any sluggishness you may get from adding tires and weight. The 4.0 is a pretty punchy motor when you have the right set of gears.

|Mike001||There aint nothing wrong with the 4.0 its torquey as hell where it needs to be it wont be sluggish if you regear. You'll probably have to wrap that engine out just to hit the powerband. If thats what you're gonna do though you otta just buy and old salvaged one with a good body or shit just get you an FJ cruiser if you wanna damn ruin a jeep like that.|

|amerijeep||I can't say anything bad about the 4.0. Personally, I would never consider an engine swap until the one in my bay was dead beyond repair. I don't think Toytota is a wise choice due to the cost and availability of parts. You can't find many in the salvage yards and the parts are very pricey.|

|MARKIE||Let me clarify something. I am planning on buying a Wrangler and I would like to put the 5VZFE engine in it. I know the Jeep will get sluggish with more weight because of the mods I plan on so I was thinking of a different engine. Your thoughts?|

Wrangler Engine Swap
What are your thoughts on a 5VZFE (V6 Tacoma Engine) engine swap for the Wrangler? I am assuming the transmission will be swapped as well? How many people do you know that have actually succeeded? I am not looking on putting a big V8 because then I am looking at axle modifications. I just want a reliable engine that has potential for engine performance parts...
Also, Tell me if this is just plain stupid :o
