|GoldTJ||Whatever it was that used to be there,it looks like it would make handle access extremely difficult,if not impossible!Maybe it belonged to a fat and gimpy old Grandma and that was part of her Rascal scooter hydraulic rack!|

|AzTJ||More than likely used to be a bracket or something there, maybe for a CB antenna.|
|08-30-2010 07:41 PM|
|Gate53||I don't think I'd put to much weigh on that end of the gate.|

|dale914||now with the better pictures, no ideas? I'd be happyto mount a jerry can or a lift on the back, but am happy to keep the holes number to a minimum|

|Neil F.||Regardless what they were for, I assume you are not using them. I also assume they are currently open. I would close them up to look better and keep water out. At the auto parts store you can get plastic push plugs. Paint the edge of the hole with some touch up paint. When dry apply some silicone or RTV around it and put the plug in. To be less noticeable, you can paint the plug body color before installing.|

|mrcarcrazy||Looks like somebody got a new drill and just had to try it out...(yes this is the best guess I could come up with)|

|dale914||sold by a neighbor who said it was never offroaded or with the roof off, but I found an L bracket for a bikini top, so... his previous owner??? I cant figure out what would be there. lame covers indeed. nothing poking through the other end. I'd be happy to throw on a high lift or jerry cans|

|Gee oh Dee||Bullet holes? The lady friend and I are really leaning toward an old aftermarket piece that was removed. The caps are prolly a lame attempt at covering the holes left when the XXX(whatever) was removed and sold for extra money when the Wrangler was sold to you or a stealership.|

|dale914||OK, take two! In relationship to the door handle to open the tailgate, there is one at the 11 o'clock, 10, 7, and two at 6. filled in with black plastic caps|

|Gee oh Dee||
I see what looks like a door lock and some extra screw/bolt holes. And I'm on a good monitor, so its not my comp messin with my eyes.
Did you check the opposite side? Maybe something internal is or was mounted there?
2000 TJ? My 98 TJ doesn't have them. Maybe something aftermarket was mounted. Different spare holder, or an aftermarked rack/gas can holder. I've seen them on TJs.

|dale914||k, I'll try, I have to tip up my moniter to see, look at the black dots on the tailgate. them's them|
|08-25-2010 11:51 PM|
|Gee oh Dee||Maybe your tire carrier was replace? Or something else was moved/altered and the original holes were kept?|
|08-25-2010 11:50 PM|
|Gee oh Dee||
And OP, what are you specifically talking about. Your pic is UBER small and doesn't explain what your talking about very well. Can you blow it up and circle via MSpaint or something similar?

|pakman55||I see black and the last 4 digits of your licence plate. "5583"|

SO, I have these holes in my tailgate and I don't know what they're from. I dont mind them, but I might as well use them. for a high lift? Jerry cans?
