|Majnoon||Was $27 at dealer, For part (probably $599 installed lol) and was easy like Big Sarge said. Just reach in with a 7/8 wrench. Breaks loose easy then comes out by hand easily. Be sure to take old O ring off old switch and put it on new one as it didn't come with one.|

|Big Sarge||nothing to it. Unplug wire, unscrew the switch, screw in new switch, plug back up. Good to go!!|

|Majnoon||So mine is out. I did the gauge thing. It did not light up. I did what Big Sarge said with the paper clip and it light right up. So gauge trick don't work for that light. Looks like I need a switch. Thanks for the paper clip knowledge Big Sarge.|

You can check to see if the light is out by doing the code checker.
1. put key in
2. hold trip reset button down
3. turn key to on (but not to start)
4. turn key to off (or the same location in which the key can be removed)
5. key to on
6. key to off
7. key to on
8. Let go of the trip button
The dash will go through each light and gauge. You should see your 4wd icon light up during the check.
If you do not see the icon light up then its not just the switch that is bad. If it does light up then the switch is 90% of the time the problem.
Same thing as the others have said but you dont have to get under the jeep to find out.

I just replaced mine last weekend. Part was like $20 and the install was easy (as long s you can get your ham fists in the tight space!). The switch is located on the top of the transfer case and can be accessed by laying under the Jeep and with your feet toward the rear and inserting your right arm up into the cavity above the skid plate and then up and over the front drive shaft. IIRC it was a 22mm socket but the space was too tight to turn a socket so I simply used an adjustable wrench.
A couple of quick notes:
1 - Before removal make sure to clean around the switch so that when you remove it any crud doesn't drop down into your T-Case.
2 - Don't forget to replace the rubber O ring on the threaded end of the switch. Don't reuse the old O ring! My switch came with a new O ring.
3 - Add a little dielectric grease to the electrical connectors before your re-connect them.

|Big Sarge||99% of the time it is the switch in the transfer case. There is no fuse for this single light alone. A way to verify if it is just the switch...... unplug the connector at the switch in the transfer case, jump the cable side of the connector with a jumper wire or a paper clip. Turn the ignition on and the light will be illuminated as long as you have good contact and the rest of the system is ok. That is the case with mine but I have not replaced my switch yet.|

4WD Dash Indicator Out.
Like the title says, my 4WD indicator is out. I bought my LJ in early December and it was out then. I'm new to all things Jeep, so bear with me. I've read some threads on the same issue, so I'm not totally clueless. Just would like to know where the open most likely is. Bulb, t-case switch, or fuse(if that has one)? And that is the only indicator on the fuse considering I have all other indicators. So that pretty much eliminates a fuse. Any help would be great!
