|Dr. Venture||Well i fianlly got the rear TB out. has to use a damn hammer gun and fire. Threw everything back up and together then i notice that my WP is leaking coolant. What a week. So tomorrow i am going to throw in a new WP and raod test. BTW after installing the TB back to normal (front) my alignment as far as steering wheel is still off and did not go back to normal, or realigned itself. Somewhat odd, but i'll be doing an alignment after the WP anyway. I'll take some pix if you like of it on the lift so you can catch a clear pic of what and where the TB's are located.|

|Vaultzz||The front is "required" since according to the state "theres nothing holding your axle in place" so theres no getting around it, just throw it back on for inspection and then take it off again after, I am|

|Tarby||I'm in PA, I passed inspection without the rear trac bar. I just had a rubicon express lift put on my yj and I don't have the rear trac bar (kit says eliminate it) and passed ok. I have the 2.5" lift. Now, I still have the front trac bar on, it comes with an extension to compensate for the added lift. I guess you would have to check your local inspection station to see what ruling would be on the issue...|

Ohh didn't think about the inspected states,,hmmm guess we are lucky down here where we dont have annual vehicle inspections..
Note to all who read these suggestions ,if you live in state with vehicle inspections do not listen to me..I do not know what your requirements are and therefore can not give you advise..

I dont have a very clear pic of the rear but you can see where it is mounted to the top of the axle on the driver side. look rite in front of the shock, you can see the bar bolted to the top of the axle, this runs across and up to the frame on the other side.
In this pic you can see the rusted arm of the sway bar between the bumer and the wheel and then has the curved arm going down to the leaf spring plate on the axle. This is on both sides.. You will know it when you see it.
I dont have a pic of the front trac bar to show you, but it looks just like the rear one.. Hope these help

The track bar is the fat pipe that runs from the frame to the axle,one side down to the other..
The sway bar is the one running across the front with 2 bars coming down and connected at the leaf spring mounts on the axle..
i would remove the back track bar first ,drive it then remove the front track bar and drive it again..
Before completely removing the sway bar I would disconnect it at the leaf spring mounts and tie the ends up out of the way and drive it around a little bit at slower speeds to get a feel for it.. Then get on a road that you can get up to around 45 or so with a few turns and see how you like it.
If you like it then remove it completely and scrap them, cause you will never want to put them back on.

|Dr. Venture||I had mine off and felt that it was more of a smoother boat feeling. I just changed my bushings in the front. But my Rear bolts and bushings are frozen together. so today i might take on that project.|

You will notice more body roll in turns, but after a few drives around corners running a little slower to learn the driving habits of the vehicle, you get used to it very quickly.
It will soften up the bumps in the road alot because there is less transfer of shock to the seat like the track bar allows.
A good starting point would be to remove the rear tb, drive around wit the front still attached to see how you like that then remove the front and drive it again. If you dont feel comfy with the front removed you can always put it back in, but I would atleast leave the rear out to help reduce the bump shock for a more comfortable ride.
Then when you learn the handling of it without the tb's you can disconnect the swaybar which is as useless as an elevator in an outhouse..
The leaf springs are attached to the axle to keep it from shifting ,unlike those TJ coil sprung suspensions. I do suggest making sure all of your steering components are in good shape before removing the sway bar tho. Worn out components will cause alot of steering wander and bump steer.
I removed both tb's and the sway bar and absalute refuse to ever put them back in..
The difference is night in day for the comfort on bumpy roads, along with the added articulation

Alright, Gee oh Dee. I think there may be a misunderstanding here. He is asking about the track bar on his YJ, a leaf sprung vehicle. You have an XJ, which has coil springs on the front and leafs in the rear. The track bar is necessary on coil sprung vehicles, no arguments. But with a leaf sprung Jeep, the axle is held in place by 4 mounting points, 2 in front and rear of each wheel. A coil sprung is held in place by control arms that attach from the rear of the front axle and the track bar is there to keep the axle under the vehicle from moving side to side.

I took my track bars off shortly after I installed my lift. The ride improved greatly, wheeling was made more fun due to the fact that I was getting more articulation. You will get a little more body roll, but if you drive the vehicle within posted speed limits you will not have any problems.
There is not really any added danger in not running them. From what I understand, Jeep was required to install the track bars due to "roll over" concerns. The entire run of the CJ line never had them at all. If you are not sure about removing them 100%, then take them off for the weekend and go for a nice drive. See how you like it. If you feel it is not for you, put them back on and enjoy your Jeep the way it is currently. Good luck which ever way you choose.

Removing Track Bars
I just read a big thread about removing the track bars and i think i want to do it. But I want to get a little more info on it before I go ahead with it.
Is it worth it? What are the effects of taking them off? Is it dangerous in town/on the highway? Any other info you have is appreciated too.
