Blaine23 I used it. Had some issues at one dealership where the salesman told me it wouldn't be an problem, they do it all the time - then sales manager came out and flat out told me he wouldn't give me that price on the Jeep Wrangler Mountain edition. So I left.

Went to a competitor the next day, worked out all the details and got exactly what I wanted. Worth every penny of $25.

Mr. Sinister in any regards, $25 for a membership is WELL worth the money you save on a new jeep. there's no good reason not to do it.

pat@fieldsauto.com Actually, when you do the tread lightly it is 1% of invoice under invoice plus a $75 doc fee. The dealer gets reimbursed 2% of invoice. So the dealer breaks out a little over invoice and keeps all of the holdback.

The dealership I work at is doing Chrysler Employee Price which is 4-5% under invoice plus any special APR programs.

chef1231 Come on guys!!! I work at a Jeep dealer and if you can get 1% below invoice then you are getting a great deal on a Wrangler. Keep in mind too when you are working the deal that the dealership doesn't have to give you any discounts on the Wrangler if they don't want too. It is always up to the dealer if they want to give you any kind of discount even if you work for a company that has special pricing. You are after all buying a Wrangler which has no big incentives for a reason. I just started looking in to the tread lightly discount yesterday, and I'm sure some dealers would take it but don't go thinking you can work the numbers from there, if you don't buy it someone else will.
I would say it would be worth $25 bucks even if you don't get the 1% and also if you read the small print it should say up to 1% under invoice which again is up to the dealership.

Most Wranglers sell for a couple hundred under MSRP or at MSRP. Thats why they are worth so much when you go to trade them in. Again like Mr. Sinister said I'm not saying some dealers wont get crazy on a wrangler from time to time but it is not an everyday thing.

Well, I guess it comes down to how hard you want to work at getting the best deal you think you can get. 1% below invoice is better than most of us have the skills/patience to haggle to. That's invoice, not MSRP..... Personally, I've never seen the invoice price of any vehicle other than online at Kbb, etc. Being able to walk in and know that I could get that price with no effort or pissing off anyone is worth $25 to me..... Heck, it was worth $25 to me to get the $100 rebate on my new tires........ That's why I joined, then they started offering the employee plus pricing as well.

It's your time and money, do what you like with them...

Isn't 1% really bad. that would mean I get my jeep with like a measly $310 discount off invoice?!? Thts depressing if that's the most jeep dealers offer

After reading some of the positive comments posted here, we decided to give the Tread Lightly method a try for ourselves. We joined over the Internet (www.treadlightly.org) (for a $25.00 fee).. they sent us a letter (which took about a week to arrive).. We presented the Tread Lightly letter to the Jeep Dealer.. and just like that, he gave us the 1% below invoice price.. with no hassle.. and no haggle.. (and in our case, we saved about $1400 off the MSRP).

Another thing.. since the above method kind of resets the new vehicle's real selling price.. the only part left to do is to figure the worth of a traded vehicle.. which you should now be able to see the true dollar amount that the Dealer is going to allow you for your trade.

All in all, I think it worked out well for us.. and, of course.. it goes without saying, that we really do love our new 2011 Flame Red Wrangler...

silvrevo If you cant do better than 1% under invoice,,,, you need to sharpen your buying skills.

But I guess its good for the average Joe.

Better than MSRP,,, right?

saltwaterwop I get the Chrysler Preferred Price through my Company as a free employee benefit which is also 1% below invoice.

zerokoo149 I used it about 6 weeks ago when I picked up my mountain edition. At the time, no dealers in my area were really negotiating at all, and I went to all the local ones. The treadlightly discount gave me the 1% under invoice with no haggling at all.

R-Law I really used it. I went in to a dealer and got the tread lightly price. It was a pretty good price and I would have purchased at that price. I then used my knowledge to go to a different dealer and negotiate a better price.

Mr. Sinister well, my hat is off to you if you can talk a dealer down to 1% below invoice. i got a good deal on my trade, so they didn't try offsetting the discount there. they're happy to move another unit and get their money back from chrysler they lost on the discount.

Needless to say this would be a considerable discount (and of course well worth the $25 membership fee)..

Guessing also, if you used this, you would probably end up with a lower selling price than most people would be able to get by just haggling down the original sticker price and not using this discount (not to mention that there may not be much haggle room with dealers on new vehicles at the beginning of new car year).

Mr. Sinister i did and it saved me about $1700. you sign up for the membership, they send you the welcome pack that includes info on what you need to do to get the discount, take the info to the dealer, get the discount. it was easy and well worth $25. there's no reason not to if you're in the market for a new jeep. it's basically equivalent to the chrysler preferred pricing for employees from how the dealer explained it to me.

uselessllama I've had people use it before. Be aware that you -can- still negotiate. Try to work on every number other than the vehicle price first. Trade value, accessories, warranties, etc - get these discounted while still assuming you are buying the vehicle as MSRP. Then mention that you have the tread lightly discount. You may not realistically be able to keep all of the discounts/etc, but it's worth a shot.
