Codes for XJ?

My buddy's XJ's check engine came on today and I was wondering if anyone here knew if there was a way to get the XJ to spit error codes the way you can with a wrangler by turning the ignition on three times. Thanks in advance. Also if there is a way if anyone has the spreadsheet for error codes for the XJ he is driving a 97 Cherokee Sport (XJ)
