|Speed94||I just had my 32RH rebuilt. Everything inside was toast. Replaced everything including bigger planetaries and kevlar(?) rings and did a breather along with an aux. cooler....total was 1800|

I have a 2001 4.0 Sahara with Auto trans. Had the code come up twice. P0740. Went and had it checked. Tranny fluid brown and burned smelling. Had the tranny pulled today and the Torque Converter showed signs of wear and burned pads. I think the codes saved me cause I could have waited for total failure but hopefully saving money by getting it nipped in the butt now. Having it overhauled! UGGGGGH! Will let you know how much it cost!

|01TJ||does the trans need to be removed to replace the lock up switch?|

|64panhead||mine threw a code also it was for the torque converter not locking up. im going to put a lock up switch in it to manualy control the lock up action. i might replace converter being that i had it rebuilt 500mi ago. if you do the rebuild yourself or know somebody that could do it for you the parts to rebuild are only 200 dollars|

well, i replaced the entire trans. with a rebuilt unit a little more than 10,000 miles ago. the fluid i used to top off the trans after the install was amsoil synthetic. I think i might drop the pan and see if that sheds any light on the problem.

Im not sure if this changes anything, buy today, it finally threw a code. Came up P0740. Does anyone have any experience with this code and how to diagnose and repair? thanks for all the responses.

|01TJ||I guess I'll just have to get it looked at. well we got about 6 or 7 inches last night. Not much wheelin here. I only use it as a daily driver.|

|Tazman2||if you think thats what the problem is then get it checked out it might be a cheep fix better than spending 1600 for a complete rebuild. by the way do you do alot of 4 wheelin with it. and do you guys have any snow up there yet.|

|64panhead||mine is doing the exact same thing. mine has been under water a few times and then rebuilt it i just shift mine manualy. im removing the valve body and installing a full manual shift kit. have you ever had it under water?|
|10-19-2008 08:03 AM|
|01TJ||well, i hope thats not the case because at 36,000 miles, that would be transmission number two.|

|Tazman2||I kinda had the same problem but mine did it in all gears same setup like yours 2.5l 3 speed auto. It happened for about 5 month then drove it from cali to Wisconsin 1800 Miles used nothing but lucas tranny oil and still rove it for another week before i took it in to get fixed. when i took it in and the guy took it apart all the gears fell out. but i did at that time had 90,000 miles on the jeep, its a 97 thou. from what i was told sence i do alot of rock crawling out here. it was from wear and tare. just fuel for thought your tranny might be going out. and lucas oil does work|

Auto Trans. Issues
Hey there. new here and have a problem. I have a 2001 TJ with a 3 speed auto and a 2.5L. I think there is an issue with the torque converter/ lock-up solenoid. When i have the trans in Drive, accelerating from a stop (like at a stop light) the trans seems to slip pretty badly. the confusing part is that when i shift into 1st instead of Drive and do the same acceleration from a stop it doesnt slip at all. another thing i noticed is that at highway speeds or when its in 3rd gear i dont think the torque converter is locking. Im not sure but the RPMs seem higher. shifting between the gears works fine. I checked the fluid and the level is fine and it looks and smells fine. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
