WhiteWillSmiff Update:

I bought a set of replacement U-bolts. I removed off the old U-bolt, took off the bracket/bump stop & took it for a test ride. Night & Day difference in the ride quality. It rides like a truck, but not unbearable. Potholes don't make my fillings pop out anymore. Even at full travel, the Track bar mount won't make contact w/ the underside of the body. Thanks for the tips & advice. Now for an extended drive w/ the top down. See ya on the highway.

WhiteWillSmiff I'm going to take measurements from the top of my wheel to the fender flares. I'll adjust to 1/4-1/2" distance away from that. There's also the track bar bracket I noticed in the rear, don't want that punching through my bed floor. Thanks for the tips, i'll check out the brake lines. This thing is going to ride so much better after this weekend, WOOT!

Fweaky I have the same kit on my YJ. It appears to have about the same clearance that your pictures show. You might consider trying to find some shorter bump stops but I would not remove the stops completely unless I was sure my axles would not contact anything especially the oil pan. Your tires may hit the fender flairs or fenders. Don't forget if you do modify your set up to make sure your brake lines are long enough. Not long after I got my drivers license I ran an old CJ through a ditch on a farm road and snapped a brake line. When I got to the end of the road and went to stop the pedal went to the floor and I sailed out onto the main road directly in front the Sheriff. He looked like he was auditioning for Smokey and the Bandit the way he cussed me.... but I didn't get a ticket.

WhiteWillSmiff Quadratec: Image Zoom

I just found this pic on Quadratec for extended bump stops. Unless I hear other good advice, think I'll get to hacking this weekend on those metal brackets.

theres a couple RC experts here, worse comes to worse I would call up Rough Country and just ask em if those things are supposed to be there. Hopefully someone will chime in though

WhiteWillSmiff My question is should I cut the brackets via sawzall, trim the bump stops, or order some different type of bump stops? Any input is appreciated.

WhiteWillSmiff It apparently comes in the Rough Country suspension package. This Jeep had the lift on it when I got it. If you look at my first post & click the link, you can see the brackets there. I rode in a similar lifted Jeep & it rode nothing like this. Picture a lowered truck that had the coil springs hacked & every bump & imperfection in the highway, it teeter-tottered (is that a word) front & back.

WhiteWillSmiff Updated pix added, I'm parked on a down hill so the front is compressing more. You can see in one of the pics that the metal bracket is getting shiny from the bump stop hitting so often.

WhiteWillSmiff I'll snap a pic today when I get back. I know we need the bump stops on the vehicle, but a suspension should be able to travel more than 1/2"-1" before smacking the bump stop & bracket. Thanks!

Fweaky Its hard to say what your problem is or whats causing it. Your bump stops are there for a reason so I wouldn't just advise cutting them off. Take some pics and post em up so we can see your set up. We need a little more info.

Bump stops & trimming

Sup guys/girls,

When I got this Jeep, I thought it rode a bit rough. Granted I knew leaf springs weren't the most forgiving thing in the world but this was ridiculous. With the help of a fellow Jeeper he pointed out that my bump stops were roughly 1/2" away from this bracket on the front & rear axles. I can snap a better picture when I go outside to stog.

Is it ok to remove the brackets via sawzall to allow my suspension to travel more? The bracket sticks up roughly 2-3" above my axle right by the U-bolt hoops. The factory bumpstop coming from the frame down is approximately 4-5" if memory serves correct. Does anyone have a pic of their front/rear axle with their bump stop/bracket locations?

Currently when I hit a pot hole my suspension jars me in my seat, then the Jeep teeter totters fore and aft absorbing the bump.

Edit: The bracket is in this picture. It's the black brackets by the shocks & u-bolts.
