Has anyone been up Shenipsit lately? I just picked up an 08 Sahara stock. I feel like getting a little dirty! I have never been up there before. Is it safe or should I not even bother? Any words of advise

time to up grade
I have a 2004 wrangler,Columbia edition. It runs like a dream. No problems what so ever..I want to start upgrading it a little bit.My question to everyone is,where do i start first?????.....Do i lift it first?.....or do i do things to the engine?....another question is,does a airflow system really work.I have a 4.0 and i find it drags in the early gears.....Finally,is there anything out their to improve gas mileage?Im open top all suggestions.Thanx.

if you are looking for just a basic dirt/gravel road to get your feet wet there is Shenipsit state forest:
Trail map of Shenipsit State Forest - ellington ct
Nothing serious but after rain some of the ruts in the road fill up and you can go puddle jumping. I would recomend going through when its dry first becasue some of the ruts are really deep (mostly on the side of the trail).
And its worth going up just for the view from the tower at the top of the hill/mountain, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.
I'm from CT too, so I'm always on the lookout for new places to take my jeep.

|bigjosh||well, originally i was told people had just dumped the dirt there, because it wasnt the only spot with the dirt, it was not until after the fact i found out it was the city. considering it is off of a road with almost no houses and many people have used it as a dumping ground, and i had been there prior to the dirt. i thought nothing of it. needless to say i havent been there since then, which was over a year ago.|

(easy to get over to go in not so easy to get out) crushed my gas tank coming out.
Please do not do this! There is a reason why the town put the dirt there.

|bigjosh||nepaug park has taken a beating by the town, ive heard from many people they are trying to make the roads and trails more accessible to most vehicles now, aside from the few major jeep spots it seems they ruined alot. but aside from there, theres not to many places in ct. used to be a good one for light rock crawlin in new britain, but last time i was there the town barricaded the entrances with mounds of dirt and rock (easy to get over to go in not so easy to get out) crushed my gas tank coming out.|

|RubiconRich||If you are looking for a nice rocky old road try it. again stay on the roads only and off the powerline.|

Coyhill... I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I heard we lost that area.
Not true the roads are and have allways been open. but you can not drive on the powerline or off the line.

|Jp90Talon||Agreed. Wheelin is real limited in CT and what few places there are, are gaurded by the clubs. I suggest checking out northeastjeep.org and there is also the Great American Jeep Rally coming up soon in Somers CT and most clubs will have booths there for you to check out and shop around.|

Try joining a club they/we know where to go in NewEngland.
People are not going to post locations of trails in the Northeast.
